Caucus time! Looks like the UC is leaving for their afternoon session.

This proposal only applies to GSRs. Generally, UAW is proposing increasing PTO from 12 to 20 days and also adding roll-over to PTO days.

UAW is now presenting Paid Time Off.

UC is asking for justification where increased time were added to some of the leave provisions. Probably trying to provide cover for when they inevitably reject these increased times.

Our union is proposing adding leave for care of family members, visa/immigration, and travel for conference. There's also proposed increases in time for some of the leave articles.

Most of the main issues in the article remain. UC insisting on limiting number of people in meetings, long timelines for grievances, no accountability for UC not meeting deadlines, arbitration not combined on merits/arbitrability, and probably more.

From what we heard so far, the UC hasnt substantially moved in this proposal. There's been minor agreements on non-substantive and logistical changes (i.e. standing arbitration dates, using emails for grievances, etc).

Now we are going to UC's counter-proposal on grievance and arbitration. EXTREMELY IMPORTANT ARTICLE. Its likely going to still suck very bad.

UC asked mainly clarification proposals. There was nothing that was extremely interesting.

We are going to hear UC questions, then they are going to propose their Grievance and Arbitration proposal.

UAW also proposed changes to add PTO for required weekend work for GSRs. Trying to address work required during off-hours.

Important proposal: UAW is suggesting proposing class-size policies. Maximum number of student + maximum ratio to be determined after contract is accepted.

Just something to note, the UC Bargaining team is made up of labor relations, human resources, and academic personelle employees. Presumably, most are attorneys and they are from each campus. But, they are all committed to screwing us over as much as possible!.

Something to note -> package is less committal than an individual article. It allows for more revision and trade-offs between sides.

UC makes a fuss about why these articles are packaged together.

Big parts of the first part of proposals: Increase orientation duration from 30 min -> 1 hour. Add department orientations as a union right. Adding release time for union members to do organizing.
