It has been almost 102 years since our Casa Central campus opened its doors to set a new milestone in higher #Education in Chile. Today, thousands of Law, Medicine, Biology, Journalism and Media students come to the heart of Santiago to study in this neoclassical building.

With hearts full of faith and a desire to build bridges where they’re most needed, students from our university are taking part in the winter missions. From July 11 to 20, volunteers will live alongside local communities, build bonds, and share the hope of Christ.

Winter missions UC Chile: Nearly 1,500 young people-university and high school students-have set out to serve 48 communities across Chile. During the commissioning Mass, Father Jorge Merino reminded them: "You bring us hope-proof that giving yourself to others is truly worth it."

The project will focus on standardizing diagnostic methods, comparing molecular results, and training local teams under the One Health approach. This initiative seeks to strengthen epidemiological surveillance and help prevent future zoonotic outbreaks in the region.

Great news for public and animal health! Thanks to the support of the #HUC Seed Fund, researchers from UC Chile, @MedVetUC1, @Uniandes, @USFQ_Ecuador, and @CayetanoHeredia will lead a study on diseases in dogs, aiming to identify potential risks of transmission to humans.

“These particles act as vectors for chemical pollutants such as pesticides, pharmaceuticals, and heavy metals, as well as for pathogenic microorganisms. They can even disrupt wastewater treatment processes by carrying antimicrobial resistance genes," explains Ricardo Salazar.
