Sonja Henie was Tyrone Power’s first girlfriend in Hollywood. They dated for nearly a year beginning in late 1936. They split in the fall of 1937 after Sonja Henie traveled to Norway following her father’s passing, leaving Tyrone Power free to briefly date Loretta Young.

When Sidney Lanfield requested Tyrone be replaced, Alice asked Darryl F. Zanuck to cast him in what would be GIRLS’ DORMITORY. Faye and Power ultimately starred in three films together, ALEXANDER’S RAGTIME BAND (1938), IN OLD CHICAGO (1938), and ROSE OF WASHINGTON SQUARE (1939).

Tyrone Power and Katharine Cornell continued to remain close throughout Tyrone’s entire life and acted together frequently, including in the play The Dark is Light Enough. They are shown together above at the opening at the ANTA Theatre, February 23, 1955.

Katharine Cornell, friend of of Tyrone Power Sr., was instrumental in casting Tyrone Power in his first roles on Broadway. They costarred together onstage several times, and it was her production of Saint Joan in 1936 that led to Tyrone being scouted by 20th Century Fox.

Tyrone Power and Katharine Cornell on a playbill for The Dark is Light Enough, March 7, 1955. The Broadway play opened at ANTA Theatre Feb 23. It was first set to open Feb 7, but Tyrone Power was in recovery from an attack of jaundice. It closed April 23 after 69 performances.
