We remember Valerie and Dwayne Jackson Sr., and the six children whose lives were cut short. Domestic violence and easy access to firearms are a deadly combination and tragedies like this are preventable. We owe it to their memory to keep fighting for safer communities.

Eight lives stolen. On August 8, 2015, six children — along with their mother and stepfather — were brutally murdered in their own home in northern Harris County. The shooter, the ex-husband of one of the victims, held the family hostage for hours before killing them.

BREAKING: Police are responding to an active shooter at Fort Stewart in Georgia. The base—home to more than 10,000 soldiers, family members and Army civilian employees—is on lockdown. Casualties have been reported. Our hearts are with those impacted. https://t.co/vFVdKKaVCN

Fair maps are a GVP issue and an equity issue. The communities most impacted by gun violence will bear the brunt of dangerous rollbacks. Support our work on the ground to fight for the majority of Texans who want safer gun laws. →

Texas is undergoing redistricting — the process of drawing political maps that decide who represents us. When those maps are drawn to keep power in the hands of a few, lawmakers can ignore overwhelming public support for the causes Texans care about — especially gun violence.

“Hey, before we come over — do you have any firearms at home? If so, are they stored securely?” It only takes a moment to ask — and it could save a child’s life. By normalizing conversations about safe storage, we protect our kids, prevent tragedies, and make Texas safer.

What Texas DOESN’T have: background checks on all gun sales, extreme risk protection orders, most domestic violence gun laws, safeguards on assault weapons. What Texas DOES have: More active shooter incidents than any other state in the nation. https://t.co/gLm6wp0n2R

Today we remember the 23 lives stolen in the El Paso Walmart shooting — a devastating, hate-fueled attack. This tragedy might have been prevented with an Extreme Risk Protection Order. But instead of passing life-saving policies, TX lawmakers passed SB 1362, banning ERPOs.

Today we remember the UT Tower shooting — one of the first mass shootings to shake TX & the nation. We honor the lives lost and the survivors through action. Decades later, gun violence continues to threaten schools, campuses, and public spaces. #EndGunViolence #NeverForget

If there’s a gun in your home, store it locked, unloaded, and out of children’s reach. And don’t hesitate to ask if other homes where your kids visit follow the same precautions.

San Antonio is grieving after 8‑year‑old Daniel Casares was unintentionally shot and killed by his 13‑year‑old brother. No adults were home when the gun discharged. This tragedy is all too common. Firearms are now the leading cause of death for kids across Texas.

Yesterday there were 4 mass shootings in 1 day across the country. This is the cost of inaction. We deserve to live without fear. It’s far past time for our leaders to act.

Texas had more active shooter incidents than any other state in 2024. While the rest of the country saw a drop, Texas moved in the wrong direction. This isn’t normal. This isn’t safe. It’s time for real change.

Gun violence affects every corner of Texas, but too many lawmakers are still silent. That’s why we’re launching a statewide call: Every Texas legislator should hold a public town hall on gun violence before the year ends. No more excuses. No more silence.

Texas: Where banning red flag laws is fine, but deploying attack drones in schools is “safety.” This isn’t bold. It’s a distraction.
