Massive new @NatureGeosci paper led by Han Hu & Yuting Liang We know that warming is increasing carbon emissions from global wetlands. But it is also shifting those emissions to a greater proportion of CH4 https://t.co/KRjcskifpI Great collaboration @ManuDelBaq and many others

Hi from #COP28! π @TWCrowther just spoke at @MakeNatureCount's event, discussing how #biodiversity credits can contribute to #climate & #nature equitably. A highlight was meeting SEBRAE, stewards of a massive region of Brazilian rainforest & exploring @Restor_Eco with them!

Easy highlight of #COP was meeting these guys from Sebrae, who are the stewards of a massive region of Brazilian rainforest. They loved discovering others like them on @restor_eco. They have saved their project on https://t.co/XizCbHZYB9 so go find and fund them ASAP!β

Finally, appreciation for the importance of natural forest protection seems to have ripened at COP this year. We have always depended on nature for our survival. Now we also need them to help stabilise our climate. We need emissions cuts AND nature! https://t.co/cjMgdD9cP2

We are excited about the new research coming from @CrowtherLab ! The study suggests that biodiversity accounts for about 50% of forest productivity. Plus, conservation/restoration initiatives that protect #biodiversity & prioritise IPLCs have the greatest Carbon impacts!
Restoring global forests where they occur naturally could potentially capture an additional 226 gigatons of carbon, equivalent to about a third of the amount carbon humans have released since the beginning of the Industrial Era, according to a new study.
