As someone who actually lives in the islands, we really don’t want a travel bubble with NZ. A bubble means lifting travel restrictions and no 14 day MIQ at either end. We don’t want that. We want to protect our home & people. It is too much of a risk to expose our people to.

We want to keep travel restrictions to the islands, maintain the 14 days MIQ when returning from NZ into Niue. Yes we are willing to spend 2 weeks in isolation cos that’s the lengths we’d go to to keep our people safe. We’d expect the same from anyone wishing to travel to Niue.

For the most part NZ is Covid-free but it isn’t Covid-proof & with constant outbreaks in Australia the trans Tasman bubble news is even less comforting. Travel bubbles increase the risk of transmission. We really don’t need a reminder of deadly disease outbreaks in the Pacific.

Our Nan was critically ill this week. We rushed to Fiji to be by her side. 5 cities, 4 flights, 3 countries in 24 hours. We didn’t make it😭 Just as we arrived she passed on. We didn’t get to say goodbye. Tomorrow we lay her to rest 😭💔😭💔
