Halley Research Station is open for business! Starting the new #Antarctic summer season off in style, the occasion was marked by the raising of the flag - an honour traditionally bestowed on the youngest member of the station. And what gloriously sunny weather for the job tooβ˜€οΈ

The community at Rothera Research Station in Antarctica came together today at the Memorial Cross, to mark #RemembranceSunday. Looking out over the bay, they laid a wreath and a member of the team played The Last Post on the trumpet.

Tomorrow, Friday, morning the RRS Sir David Attenborough will travel up the Firth of Forth and under the bridges to Rosyth. I hope to get better pics as the weather forecast looks brighter. ETA Forth Bridge is around 11:00, I think. Update tomorrow on timing

The sun might not be making an actual appearance in #Antarctica any time soon, but it's still putting on a spectacular show. These atmospheric pictures by Billy Thursfield show the beautiful and eerie sunrise at Rothera Research Station as Antarctic winter sets in fast.

There goes the sun πŸ‘‹πŸŒ… By tradition, the oldest person on the station lowers the flag at Rothera. They're marking the last rise of the sun over the horizon as Antarctic winter sets in. This year Flag Down was led by Campbell Miller, who's working on the new Discovery Building.
