Someone informing me on the dangers of single stair buildings provided this βarticleβ from the IAFF so Iβm now forced to highlight how dishonest it is. Of the 5 examples provided, this is the breakdown: 1. Old apartment building, no sprinklers, no self closing doors. It didnβt
@AddisonDJenkins Aging housing stock is my assumption. 92% of home fire deaths are in single family homes. Older housing stock is where the greatest risk lies. Meanwhile the avg age of housing has kept going up, which mirror productionβs ongoing decline. We under build, avg home age goes up,

βDuring a fire or emergency, stairwells are the critical lifelines for residents and first responders,β said Karen Fry, Fire Chief and General Manager of Vancouver Fire Rescue Services. βThe two new stair design options maintain a good level of protection needed to keep those
Unbelievable day for Vancouver: Unanimous passing of an as of right, 6 story, Single Stair building code amendment, *with the blessing of the Fire Department*. As a counsellor said- βWhy canβt we have interesting buildings on smaller lots? Once you see it You canβt unsee it.β

Canβt wait to go visit, but my opinion after seeing this photo is still urbanism>>>architecture.
Japan is often cited as proof that architecture doesn't matter, only urbanism. Having just come back, if anything I think it's proof that it *does* matter, because I walked along many streets thinking "if only the buildings were nicer this would be a beautiful street." Thoughts?
