Heavy left-turn volume on 39th street (71 to StateLine) and pedestrian crossing makes it a perfect candidate for 4 to 3 lane conversion. That bit of road paint would save lives and reconnect my Hyde Park neighborhood (and others). Thoughts @QuintonLucasKC and @BrianDavidPlatt ??.

All this talk about food deserts and people forget about Aldis and Save a Lot and Happy Food. Do people think cheep grocery stores donโt count?.
There is a successful Aldi a mile from the failed KC subsidized grocery store. All the interviews with the failed storeโs shoppers talked about its high prices. The lesson isnโt that you canโt run a grocer in a poor neighborhood, itโs that poor people need cheap groceries.

Even if we clad these with fiber cement siding and thin brick veneer these buildings would be so much better and just as cheap (if not cheaper than) traditional 5/1s.
These are extremely simple buildings, with low construction and maintenance costs thanks to middling height and shared walls. Their value comes from their shallow and wide design, which passively creates โฆ.
