Today my baby girl turned 15! Before she was born I was a drug addict headed for death or back to jail. She literally saved my life. She is my everything ❤️ Even though she is too "cool" to even give me a hug on her bday 🙄

I just learned that my tutorials are used in a women's prison in Arizona. That just made my day 🙂 I love helping people, but especially in that situation. I know what it's like to be locked up and the fact that I could help them escape into my videos is the best feeling ever

Raising a child with special needs is HARD. It puts extra stress on my relationship, it’s a lot of work physically/mentally and thinking about his future is very stressful, but this kid brightens my life up. He wakes up with a smile EVERY single morning. Best person I know ❤️🧩

For senior developers working with juniors, interns, etc, I encourage you to try not to get frustrated with them, but to take the time to help. It will help you both in the long run. You were inexperienced at one time. Treat them how you would have wanted to be treated 🙂

Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there and start freelancing, applying for jobs, making products, whatever. I NEVER felt ready before any of that stuff. I was always full of doubt. You have to shut that part of your brain off and just do it. Go get what you want!

Some of you know I battled drug addiction when I was younger. Ages 17, 21, 23 I landed in jail I got clean, met my wife, found a passion, had 2 kids and changed my life. I spent 2 years in this exact jail. I watch it to remind me how far I've come

When I code, I talk to myself out loud and explain what I'm doing as I would in a video. If you haven't tried it, I would recommend it. It helps me think more clearly. Although, you probably shouldn't do it in public 😄

A lot of people in their 30s or even mid-late 20s ask me if they are too old to start coding. That sounds crazy to me I don't care if you're 60, it's never too late to learn. I started at 26. I'm 39 now and I feel like I still have a ton of time left. Forget about your age 🙂

Being self-taught is not easy. Just knowing what to learn and planning a curriculum is difficult. It takes a TON of discipline, time and hard work. If you can't motivate yourself, then maybe formal education is the way to go. Which is fine. Some people just need more structure.

You cannot "Become a programmer in 30 days". We see this over and over on YouTube. You can learn the basic concepts and some syntax, but it takes a lot of hard work. These videos are nothing but clickbait. Nothing comes quick and easy

You may never feel completely ready to take on your first client or job. When I took my first client, I barely new any code. I was mostly creating Wordpress sites. There was some custom PHP involved, but I learned as I went and everything worked out. Have faith in yourself

JS devs, be sure not to jump into a framework too quick. Make sure you have a fundamental understanding of things like promises, async/await, fetch, DOM manipulation, array methods, etc. You won't regret it

Before creating this algorithms and data structures course, I was one of the people that said “meh” to them. They aren’t practical, etc. I have changed my tune. Studying them and then creating this course made me a much more capable developer. It’s such fundamental knowledge.
