There is a lot wrong with this announcement: it's anti-child, transphobic, and will will limit young people's access to comprehensive sex education which they desperately need and is based in ideology and is counter to literal decades of research. 1/ https://t.co/UjT4frkA3o

Education Minister Dustin Duncan says the changes are meant to standardize policies across school divisions and came in response to complaints from parents.

One of the ways we build and sustain hope is by doing. We get engaged, and we stay engaged in trying to make things better. Smart husband has smart suggestions about what yo do.

We’re lined up to vote at my local polling station in Regina. My kid counts 95 adults lined up outside the building waiting to vote. #ReginaVotes

My nine year old was listening to the radio, and was horrified to hear Moe call this a mistake. From the backseat: “he knew what he was doing and he said it on purpose! It was intentional and he’s not sorry enough!”

This never should have been said in the first place, and while Moe has not given a full and appropriate policy for participating in transphobia and transmisogyny, I’m pleased he sees the error of his ways.
Moe is walking back his “first order of business” and the gendered change room policy. Says he misspoke and needs to breath. Says Ed. minister will consult with the school division boards once they are elected. That conversation will “ensure every child is supported”

I’m just a Saskatchewan education professor, looking up the third MLA to be education minister in a little over a year. Or as I like to think of the education minister, my MLA pen pal.

What do I know about GSAs? Well, at one point, I supported GSAs in 11 high schools (every lunch, every day afterschool, and one before school). I started elementary GSAs in the 2000s. I know a great deal about why they matter to students. @sbearbergman does too:
I want to talk about Tim Walz and GSAs, as one of the founders of the first-ever Gay/Straight Alliance in a high school, in 1990 at @Concord_Academy. A thread: The GSA movement was a student movement, which took hold for complex reasons - a collision of increased awareness about

Having “worked hard” to rid schools of trans youth, fair funding, reproductive health information, school librarians, & appropriate supports for students with disabilities, the Sask Party is now targeting cell phones. There are real crises in education. This is a distraction.
Education Minister Jeremy Cockrill has an important announcement about cell phones as we get back to basics in Saskatchewan classrooms.

@porterairlines I’m an hour into the wait. The same music plays over and over as a loop. @porterairlines I like the lounge and all, but what I’d really like is a way to leave a number and get a callback. The music is awful. Will my heart have synced to this by the time I get through?

Because the website says it’s a “past booking” I have to rebook via an agent. When I called @porterairlines this morning, system said the wait would be 17 hours and 36 minutes. There is no way to leave a call back number. No updates about how long the wait will be.

My fourteen year old kid was suppose to fly back from camp yesterday on a @porterairlines flight. The desk agent said “I can’t rebook you, as our system’s down, but I can tell you all tomorrow’s flights are full. Cool-cool. She did say that the 14 year old could wait by the desk.

When I say that I try hard to act as if I already have tenure this is what I mean. It’s true, academia may not reward this behaviour but we got into academia because we love our communities, and we own them our allegiance.
Lots of amazing folks have just started new faculty jobs, and it's prompted me to reflect on the last 5 years of my TT experience. So here are 15 lessons I wish I'd learned earlier as an academic:

If they aren't mature enough under the age of 16 to affirm their own identity, they sure in the heck can't be mature enough to work as part of the labour force. @SaskChamber you want to change that? First stand up to SaskParty and get rid of Parental Rights law. #skpoli

When the Sask government reveals it's main constituent in education to be the oil and gas industry, believe them. Not students, not teachers, not a sustainable future. Brought to you by the government that told you trans youth under 16 accessing their rights was an emergency.

I was working at York that spring, organizing pride & investigating anti-Palestinian attacks on campus. When I was working alone in the office @sbearbergman would often DJ for me. It was delicious and heady to get to be in his music, & to have a private radio station just for me.
17 years ago today, I got in my car and drove 9 hours to Canada to spend one night with a guy I’d had a conference fling with 6 weeks earlier. 2 weeks later I moved to Toronto for the summer to see about him. We will have been married 15 years next week. #t4tLoveStories

I AM NOT A LAWYER, AND THIS IS NOT LEGAL ADVICE if you're going to a protest where you expect to get arrested it's extremely important to have arrest training. this thread will not be as useful as a proper training, but i can offer a few tips:

Education is a conservative industry, across North America, including in the Canadian prairies, school boards and school principals make decisions that are more harmful than the legislation, thinking they are ensuring they meet the legislative requirements.
