I think it's ignorant of Draper to say that disability is a bigger problem than race when being BIPOC and disabled puts us at a systematic disadvantage and comes with its own set of issues white disabled people do not have to deal with. The ball was dropped here.

Even if the author intentionally did not specify Melody's race, the fact Disney decided to go with the "white as the default" in lieu of making Melody any other race is telling. They had choices. It would've been more impactful if Melody had been anything other than white.
Ok idk how I forgot this but the main girl Melody in the book was black??? So was the author??? And Disney just made her white for the movie??? They just thought ppl wouldn’t notice??? I was SUPER excited for this but now it’s 100% GONE! It is the year 2024! DO BETTER! 😡
