So I hope Rich Hamburg, Paul Bonta, Amy McSpadden Bailey, Sharon Gilmartin, and others on the Safe State’s team view this award as much of an indication of their own inclusivity and openness to partner; as it is mine.

It’s also true that partnering with Safe States really is a pleasure; and that’s because of the incredible team they have pulled together to focus on its injury prevention work.

So, whether that be helping iterate on strategy; co-host convenings; or spot policy opportunities and connect those with possible solutions – I stand ready to do all I can.

But it’s been equally important for me to leverage the Foundation’s position, relationships, and standing; in any and all ways; to advance our aligned data infrastructure goals.

I am honored to receive this tremendous recognition from @SafeStates Alliance. The @JoyceFdn has been pleased to fund and partner with Safe States; particularly around the important work it does to sustain and build out the National Violent Death Reporting System.

Hats off to everyone who has been involved from the @joycefdn's Gun Violence Prevention and Justice Reform and External Affairs teams (past and present).

Very proud to be part of the team that has now put on more than 40 webinars, with many more to come. So grateful for all of the researchers, partners, grantees, policymakers, colleagues, and friends who have participated.

What started as an idea to keep communication going through the early days of the pandemic, has turned into an important way to disseminate emerging research findings to key stakeholders.

Read the full report and recommendations on how law enforcement, state policymakers, @ATFHQ, and Congress can do more to leverage these tools to solve gun crimes and save lives.

Significant changes at @ATFHQ are needed to lower processing times, increase ease of use, and ensure crime guns are traced and gun traffickers are identified. And more law enforcement agencies need to take advantage of these important tools that we know work.

But the national trend holds. As gun violence continues to devastate communities across the country, law enforcement agencies, Congress, and the ATF can't leave resources on the table that can help save lives.

And in Milwaukee, the Crime Gun Intelligence Center has been instrumental in analyzing and tracking crime guns, cementing itself as a model for the country.

But, some states are getting it right. @KwameRaoul and our partners in Illinois worked tirelessly to establish Crime Gun Connect to efficiently analyze recovered gun crimes and help solve gun crimes.

In Michigan, for example, only 35% of law enforcement agencies are enrolled in eTrace – one of the lowest rates in the country. Of these agencies, only 19 - out of approximately agencies 600 statewide - share their gun trace data with other state agencies.
