A cautious approach to decisions big & small became a defining characteristic of Harris’s vice presidency. Now, unshackled from the pressure to keep focus on Biden, Harris has unexpectedly become a star. On her ascent, w/@tparti @EmilyGlazer @AnnieLinskey:

A deferential approach to Biden and early missteps gave way to sharper skills and business ties. A turning point came with the abortion fight.
In 2021, the VP’s team discussed whether she should salute the military. Aides explained protocol didn’t require her to & it could make her look like she was inflating her role. When she didn’t salute, conservatives pounced. She saluted after that, even practicing in private.

I don't even know what to say. Alicia is the reason why I am an immigration reporter, and why (I hope) I'm decent at it. I learned everything from her. I was still learning from her as recently as yesterday. I am devastated and angry, but hopeful someone will hire her quickly
After nearly 7 years @WSJ I was among those laid off yesterday. I’m still trying to wrap my head around why. But I’m pretty sure I won’t ever get an answer. So for now, I’m on the hunt for the next opportunity to keep doing what I love and have spent my adult life dedicated to.
