Have you ever thought that while Dick was Bruce’s light, Bruce was dick’s darkness. Dick had to constantly fight to not let Bruce influence the way he made relationships with others. He had to fight against learning unhealthy coping mechanisms and to learn to trust others.

Bruce always saw Dick as his son. The only reason he didn’t adopt him first is because Dick had good parents he didn’t want to replace him. If anything he took Jason in because he missed Dick a lot, he had empty nest syndrome over his son that left him.
It's not that Jason is Bruce's favorite, it's that Jason Todd was the first time Bruce ever actively went out of his way to try and be a father first. He adopted Jason before Dick. Then with losing him and everything after. Everything between them is more raw than the others.
