As this scheme is linked to unemployment, it will be initiated by the DWP - an organisation that once asked my Dad "do you still need hearing aids?" If you expect them to deal with this in a considerate, emotionally sensitive way, you really need to sign-on more.

This is all about bringing back the horrible culture of the 2000s, where fat-shaming and classism went hand-in-hand. It's just another way to make people feel crap about themselves, instead of actually supporting them.

Looking for work and signing-on is already hard enough, without a government body criticising your actual body. They wouldn't offer laser eye surgery. They have never considered offering mental health support - they do exactly the opposite, to be frank.

You can take Jeremy Kyle off air, but so much of culture and bloody government policy is influenced by the same rhetoric. This is the state trying to enforce something that literally changes people's bodies. Nothing in the article questions the ethics of this. Not one line.
