My new book, "Wazo the Wildcard: Things Go Wrong, Mostly," is out. You can buy it here, and I'd be eternally grateful if you did: US: https://t.co/IVWZHEvwWT Canada: https://t.co/MMeX5oWKPj

Wazo never planned on being a hero. Honestly, he barely plans at all. But when the wrong spell, the wrong relic, or the wrong idea lands in his lap, things have a way of spiralling out of control—s...

@WabanoHealth Indigenous Service's Canada's website still claims a processing time of 1 year, or 2 years for complex cases. If this was ever accurate, it hasn't been since COVID. My friend's application took 6 years to be approved. Don't pretend you're better. Do better. Be better.

@WabanoHealth Wabano has no moral high ground in pretend it protects Indigenous persons and their health any better than the settlers. But you should know better. Taking away a doctor providing active care and follow up is despicable, when your patients have no way to get their status faster.

@WabanoHealth That report, which was promised a year ago, was never made public. But the sudden need for Wabano to divest itself of as many patients as possible came in its wake. Suddenly the funds weren't there anymore. Why?

@WabanoHealth If you really want to share a report in the interest of transparency and improving Indigenous health, why not share the one where Wabano was investigated by the City of Ottawa for mishandling funds and workplace harassment?

The City of Ottawa is investigating complaints of harassment, bullying and improper use of funds inside the Wabano Centre for Aboriginal Health, which provides health and social services to Indigen...

@WabanoHealth You can send Wabano your correspondence from Indigenous Services Canada, the Métis Nation of Ontario, etc., and explain that you cannot force these entities to process your file any faster, and Wabano will still take your doctor away anyway, cancelling your booked appointments.

Hypocritical, considering @WabanoHealth is unenrolling Indigenous clients from their clinic who are actively in the process of reclaiming status or membership.
nationalobserver.com
Wabano wants the health-care system in Ottawa and surrounding areas to take ownership and confront the racism Indigenous Peoples face regularly at hospitals and walk-in clinics.

So just to recap: - kids getting hit with RSV & other viruses hard - no public health push for flu or covid vaccines from govt - no public health push for masking indoors in public spaces - no fever & pain meds - ERs pushed past capacity - major shortage of amoxicillin Cool

The anecdotes of sudden death in young- mid age adults is like nothing I’ve seen in my career as a cardiologist. At what point does “anecdotal” evidence translate into urgent investigation & consensus documents to empower us to prevent these terrible outcomes? #MedTwitter
