Arknights just lost a real one. @ZephyrEmbyr improved every space he was part of, his passion for the game was clear as day, and competitive IS wouldn't be nearly as popular on global without him. He lost his months-long battle with cancer this month. Rest in peace, Zephyr.

This experience, of losing a game I love, served as one of several motivations for making my Endfield videos in the way that I did. I don't want to lose yet another game I love to hordes of people who don't understand that different people find different things fun.

ZZZ is a prime example of why "games should be fun" is a monumentally stupid thing to say because it offers nothing to the conversation and is only ever offered as wilful ignorance and deflection by people who don't know what the fuck they're talking about.

Briefly getting that vibe from Manato was just me continuing to cope that the game can still offer me that joy. The combat is still great fun, sure, but combat alone is not (and has never been) enough to keep me playing a live service game long term.

Ever since then, ZZZ just feels like they don't know what they actually want to make any more, so they just add random bullshit players ask for instead. Devs listened!!!. The game I loved, with the soul and joy I felt in 1.0, does not exist any more. Lobotomised by philistines.

Speaking of which - Hoyo's decision to remove TVs was catastrophic. It wasn't perfect but it WAS a creative and interesting "show, don't tell" way of storytelling. But instead of having confidence in their art and improving its implementation, they just removed it entirely.

Manato is the first character I've seen since then who's given me a similar feeling of "hey maybe they haven't given up on the stuff I liked about it" based on first impressions from drip marketing but I'm not willing to catch up to the 2.0 story just to see his characterisation.

The characters they've added since launch just haven't given me any kind of similar feeling. (The sole exception is Burnice, she fucking rocks.) Sure, some characters have been pretty good, but I just don't feel the soul that was there before.

Since a couple of people asked about it:. ZZZ 1.0 hooked me for a few reasons, but the biggest is easily the Belobog characters. Gurren Lagann is my fav anime ever, Anton is my fav character and very obviously Kamina inspired, Chapter 2 was so, so much fun. But that ZZZ is dead.

Actually no, I should stop coping. Every time I've tried playing ZZZ in the past few months I'm reminded that it's just not the same game as it was in 1.0 any more. Sigh.

This probably just means the lack of news is so they have room to delay it if necessary. I'm literally willing to wait years longer if that's what it takes, but when there's been so little communication from Hypergryph you can't really blame people for running out of patience.

So, no news, but at least we got to see a new character! I also like the fact there seems to be a greater emphasis on the turrets than in previous trailers. There were also hints that we might see a day/night cycle, and possibly also dynamic weather. ?. Anyway, ENDFIELD TOMORROW
