I’m very excited to speak on a panel w/ @AP_Trevor on the role of generative AI in the classroom at the Advanced Placement Annual Conference in Seattle, WA. If you are attending, come check it out on Friday at 8:30am PDT in Summit: Level 4 - Terrace Suite. #AP_Conf @CollegeBoard

This. I’ve participated in a lot of conversations about generative AI in schools lately. Most of these are centered around students using it to cheat. Maybe if the experiences we’re offering young people can be done by a bot in seconds, then it’s time to change our strategies.
School should teach kids how to crush life in the world they’ll be adults in. Given that new AI magic wands keep appearing every few months, schools should focus less on teaching obsolete skills and more on teaching kids how to be the world’s most amazing wizards.

Things that Schools should teach: 🧠 • Being wrong is not a bad thing. • It's Okay to question what you have been taught. • Grades aren't as valuable as skills. • Understanding is more important than memorization. • Making mistakes is Okay. Learn from your mistakes.

A new book on why generalists—who dabble and try things, rather than committing immediately to a specialty—tend to find greater success has some clear (and counterintuitive) implications for parents, writes @AshleyFetters
theatlantic.com
David Epstein’s new book, Range, argues that starting a specialized path early and doggedly sticking to it may not be as rewarding as trying a variety of things and quitting the unfulfilling ones.

Today’s digital learners and tomorrow’s digital leaders are great multitaskers. Let’s not assume students aren’t paying attention even if it seems that way. #Garrett spent most of his time in class on Reddit, but could explain concepts better than most and got a 5 on the AP exam.
