I once wrote a polite but blunt comment on the forum of one of Matt Ridley's Econtalk episodes. I felt that the host did a very poor job of bringing his position in British society and his history of innovation in business and broader business stewardship into the conversation.

For those who don't know. Northern Rock was literally in the business of enabling and managing deficits such that it and its lenders and borrowers did not go bust. And Matt Ridley was the chairman. And they did an awful job if it under his watch. And thus they went bust.

@thomasforth especially ironic considering that there are indeed defecits in business, that a great example was the reliance of northern rock on continuous funding which dried up during the credit crunch and caused their problems in the first place
