Today is
@SteamDB
's 10th birthday! 🎉
@thexpaw
is an absolute powerhouse for keeping it going this long AND still actively working on it, especially without monetization.👏
(I was going to tweet this at exactly 10:10PM but still flu-ridden so best do it while I'm awake.)
The CS:GO item schema API includes internal things for whatever reason, which includes such bangers like:
One-time Payment for Map 'de_anubis' (USD $150,000.00)
One-time Payment for Map 'de_tuscan' (USD $150,000.00)
Recap of last night's CSGO Source 2 / CS2 updates
1. Valve added a "Limited Test Build" launch option to the CS:GO app, which uses "cs2.exe" as the executable, and requires owning app 2279720 for it to show up.
2. They created another private branch "dprp", normally it's "dpr".
🚨 CS2 added a new cvar that improves frame times when using fps_max and fixes world rendering appearing to stutter.
engine_low_latency_sleep_after_client_tick true
It's off by default. Try it, did it improve things for you?

Steam Deck reservations leak the reservation queue sizes.
For the 512gb model so far:
US: 50k
EU: 8.4k
GB: 7k
Trying to figure out whether there are more regional pools.
There's a thread on Reddit asking about their favorite CS 1.6 maps and at least three comments mention deahtrun_temple, it's surprising to me that a map I made while I was in school was so popular.
Seems like CS2 hardcoded the tickrate in the client binary, so even if server binary is patched (they got rid of GetTickInterval function which made this easy), it shouldn't matter.
Valve should be improving stuff that is subpar, rather than bruteforcing it with 128 tick.
Steam is getting a new downloads page.
I saw the code for it in same update that added SteamPal, didn't realize it was this simple to access though:

What are your impressions of
@CounterStrike
2 release?
CSGO is gone, no new maps or game modes were added since the last beta update. Seemingly a lot of danger zone and gungame cvars were removed, are these modes even coming?
Valve has been working on 'game recording clips', but there's not enough details to figure out how it will work. Probably recording and sharing clips from Steam client?
And they're preparing to ship the redesigned cart to beta client users.
Valve is working on loyalty awards/rewards. It has a point system, and a system to add reactions to user reviews.
Also includes reward items, redeeming points for badge levels, and possiblity game discounts.
GameTracking is cool, ran by yours truly.
They also added new depots to the CS:GO app in preparation for S2. 2279721 is the workshop tools dlc. Similar setup to the Dota app.
Can anyone help getting in touch with SEGA?
Their lawyers are trying to take down Yakuza: Like a Dragon's SteamDB page claiming that we distribute the game.
I took the page down because they did not reply to the first abuse report and sent a new one to our hoster.
New VRF (Source 2 viewer) release!
Highlights:
🗃️ Explorer that finds S2 games and workshop content
💡 Baked lighting support and paralax corrected cubemaps in map viewer
🐌 Sped up material exporting in glTF
Talked to some map makers, Valve asks map makers to create a hidden skin so they can set up workshop revenue flow. Then Valve creates "payments" in the item schema, which ends up linked to said workshop item.
Basically a hack to pay mappers as if they submitted a skin.
@CounterStrike
I don't enjoy begging for access, but I would like to have access to CS2 to work on my tools () and provide feedback where possible.

Valve lawyers sent out emails to Dota 2 custom game creators asking them to stop all monetization by August 17th.
This includes third-party payment methods, battle passes, susbcriptions, items, currencies, skins, etc…
CS2 added a new server location in Amsterdam, now visible on
@SteamStatus
Since I've asked CS team to add it to the status api, they've also removed north/east/etc from EU/US server names and use country/state names now.
To address extreme levels of data scraping & system manipulation, we’ve applied the following temporary limits:
- Verified accounts are limited to reading 6000 posts/day
- Unverified accounts to 600 posts/day
- New unverified accounts to 300/day
New VRF (Source 2 viewer) release! Lots of improvements and bug fixes (along with new bugs that need to be fixed in the next release)
A big new feature is decompiling maps to vmap for hammer, and models to vmdl for modeldoc.
Lots of rendering improvements and bug fixes.
I screwed up my sleep by staying up until 5am, so I'm not doing that again today.
SteamDB has been running for over 10 years for free and without ads, an invaluable tool for the hype machine.
Gifts are appreciated!
The CS2 text message changes are very welcome, and I'm almost positive they looked at my text mod.
Messages like joined team, attacked a teammate, match clinched got color tags, but they don't work because they didn't add a space in front.
Screen is vanilla CS!
Last Steam beta introduced an important change to game downloads.
With this change, it is no longer possible to download older game versions, because client asks for a code (GetManifestRequestCode) that rotates every five minutes.
Since Valve refuses to fix performance of the "all games" page on Steam community profiles, I did it for them:
All I did was hook the row building and make it build into a fragment (temporary element), and not append all the sub menu popups to body.
Personal achievement unlocked: mentioned 50k people with @\everyone because I expected the "are you sure" confirmation window from Discord, but it just the message straight away.
In preparation for CS2 it's a good time to call out that we have a Source 2 asset/resource viewer and decompiler.
S2 is complicated and we would love to have more people to help out with development.
Have you been getting UAC prompt every time you launched CS2? That's because it was trying to install directx, but the installer was removed.
I sent an email this morning, and they fixed it
Besides the free armor bug this commands allows you to do, but you can also refund outside of the buyzone, after the buytime has expired.
Also refunding while controlling a bot gives you the money.
There is an undocumented "sellback" command which you can use to refund all items.
alias "refundall" "sellback 0;sellback 1;sellback 2;sellback 3;sellback 4;sellback 5;sellback 6;sellback 8;sellback 9;sellback 10;sellback 11;sellback 12;sellback 13;sellback 14;sellback
A good example would be downloading games on Steam Deck directly from your PC instead of the internet.
If it will read installed game on disk, that should also avoid the decryption step for each chunk.
And the fact that a community member has to run a status page (hey that's me) is just silly.
Valve does not provide any status pages or updates anywhere.
Steam Big Picture will eventually be replaced with the same UI as seen on the Steam Deck (which really, is the same React UI on desktop currently).
However I wonder what they will do with store and community pages both on the Deck and in Big Picture?
Valve worked on a voxel-based game engine back when they were uncertain about Source 2. The game this was being worked on is referred interally as "A.R.T.I"
Valve's "Neptune" controller shows up in latest Steam client beta again.
It's named "SteamPal" (NeptuneName) and it has a "SteamPal Games" (GameList_View_NeptuneGames)
SteamDB does not support piracy, it does not provide downloads, it does not sell keys, it does not link to any websites that do any of these activities.
