picked up a few persian miniatures & attended a painting workshop in bukhara, uzbekistan. according to locals, this centuries-old persian tradition evolved through chinese influences after the mongol conquests, with bukhara & samarkand being historical centres of this art

the samani tomb blends islamic, zoroastrian and buddhist influences, becoming one of the most influential buildings of its time. It’s one of the few structures that survived genghis Khan’s sack of bukhara, and interestingly, jinnah’s mausoleum in pakistan was modelled after it.

the tomb of ismail samani in bukhara is one of the oldest buildings in central asia, being built in the 9th century. he is credited to have helped islam become a dominant religion in central asia, while incorporating elements of preexisting zoroastrian and buddhist cultures.

old city of bukhara in the early hours of the morning is a scene straight out of 1001 nights. the sun plays along the alleys, casting deep shadows across the streets & tinting the clay bricks with warm, golden hues that glow through the day. most picturesque city in uzbekistan

@theshahnama Bukhara is actually known not for its carpets but for the Bukhari design known in Persian as "pâ-e fil" ("elephant´s footpring") often used in the carpets of Turkemenistan, Afghanistan, Iran and Pakistan. Bukhari carpets are actually not that well sold.

bukhara is a city famous for its rugs. yet the city was never a center of production in the region. rather, due to its strategic location on the silk road, the city established itself as one of the most important commercial centre for rugs today it continues that tradition.

took a suzani workshop today & it was such a beautiful yet taxing experience suzani is a type of embroidered and decorative textile originating in central asian. each city in the region has their own distinct traditions, with samarkand’s pomegranate imagery being the most famous
