Grieving the loss of one of my best friends, Jim Lovell. His extraordinary legacy is cemented by many space missions: Gemini VII, Gemini XII, Apollo 8 and Apollo 13. Our mutual respect had no limits. The Gemini XII mission we flew together paved the way for the Apollo

Sometimes, you do things when the opportunity presents itself, simply because you can. Here I am in the late 60s in Maspalomas, Gran Canaria. Landing ahead of the other Apollo XI crew members, I decided to borrow a tee shirt and shorts from the hotel and go on a dive excursion

This looks like an interesting endeavor – Skyfall – a plan to keep exploring Mars with several drone helicopters. With 72 flights, the Ingenuity program on Mars was a great achievement, and Skyfall looks to build upon those gains. We need to keep pressing onto Mars!

SPLASHDOWN!! On July 24th, 1969, we landed softly in the vast Pacific Ocean – and after eight humanity-changing days, our mission was complete. The great crew from the legendary @USNavy USS Hornet (CV-12) was there to see our prompt extraction from the deep! 56 years hence,

Anca and I were grateful and touched to receive the highest blessing today, from His Holiness, Pope Leo XIV on the 56th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing. What an honor! We prayed for good health, long life, and prosperity for all humankind. #PopeLeoXIV.

July 20, 1969. “Contact light, engine stop.” The Apollo 11 lunar module Eagle touched down at Tranquility Base on the Moon. A few hours later, Neil Armstrong and I stepped foot on the Moon, with Michael Collins orbiting close-by. An achievement resulting from years of

Where were you #OTD (in fact, on this exact day – Friday, July 18th, 1969) 56 years ago? I can tell you where I was…on the way to the Moon! Happy #Apollo11 Friday!

On this day, July 16th 1969, we were “GO” for launch – and at precisely 13:32 UTC, #Apollo11 lifted off from @NASAKennedy to transport three mortal Americans – Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins and myself – to the Moon. The hard work, dedication and focus across the entire @NASA

Only 2 days to go to the anniversary of the Apollo11 launch! Tall and proud, gleaming white, the Saturn V rocket sat calmly poised on the launchpad. It would soon unleash a roaring fury of unimaginable and awesome power to propel us to the Moon. Things were coming down to the

Less than a week to go for the launch of #Apollo11 – I remember that last week before we lifted off (56 years ago) was a busy one with final preparation and testing. Training flights in helicopters, T-38s, and the parabolic aircraft, to time in the Lunar and Command Module

Continuing the countdown to #Apollo11 with a Moon-watcher alert – tonight (July 10th ) will see what is often called the “Buck Moon.” To me, every full Moon is a reminder of the awe-inducing power on humanity of Earth’s only natural satellite. Even with all of the time we spent

Officially starting the countdown to the anniversary of #Apollo11 today. You may recall that a few months ago, India’s Space Research Organization moon orbiter Chandrayaan 2 captured photos of both the Apollo 11 and Apollo 12 lunar modules on the Moon’s surface. They may be small

The Luftschiff Zeppelin 1 made its first flight 125 years ago today over Lake Constance, Germany in 1900. Flown from a floating hangar, LZ 1 was the first successful rigid airship, even though it crashed during the test. LZ 1 only flew twice after that maiden flight – but it
