Due to recent developments in Venezuela, the160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (160th SOAR) has been taking the lion's share of the attention for their helicopter assault. However, a few people have been curious how helicopters were able to infiltrate Venezuelan airspace

Regardless of your political beliefs, if there is one thing the United States strike in Venezuela did, it reinforced the advantages of the Navy. From enforcing a blockade to serving as a base for a surgical strike, naval ships were instrumental during the entire ordeal. This

The average naval enjoyer: France could not compete with the Royal Navy during the late 19th/ early 20th centuries due to problems with infrastructure, money, and capability. The average naval enthusiast: France did not compete with the Royal Navy because they were too busy

Let's pivot away from the battleship talk to return to frigates. I have noticed that many continue to downplay the lack of VLS and other features for the Legend-derived frigates. There have also been claims that the Frigates do not need to have significant firepower as they: -

If I were a betting man, I would say that many more countries than just China and Iran have pursued this idea. The weaponized Chinese merchant ship isn't the talk of the town because it was the first of its kind, it was the first spotted in the wild. If I were to double down

@thegeneralboard It’s a concept of asymmetric warfare that has been around for years but only continues like China and Iran have been smart enough to take advantage of this cost-effective way of saturating a target with a lot of missiles. The US Navy needs at least a dozen of these ships in the

It seems that for the last decade or so every major military was figuring out ways to sneak missiles into shipping containers. Its logical, such a launcher would be easily concealed and just as portable as a real shipping container. I also remember countries, from Israel to

That was the moderate statement. My extremist statement of the day is that I would go so far as to say that the "battleship" concept is too large and overpowered (in the wrong ways) while the current frigate design is too small and underpowered.

I don't mind a large surface combatant (I still don't agree with the "battleship" terminology), but that doesn't mean I think it is a replacement for the DDG(X) or frigates. If History has taught us anything, there has never been a wonder weapon to replace all others. Air power

The question was settled so hard the United States made it a point to keep no less than 15 battleships in the Navy inventory following the Second World War. Five older Standard Battleships until the end of the 1950s and the modern fast battleships until the 1960s with the four

Thought this question was settled during WWII. Compare how many battleships were sunk by planes flying from aircraft carriers vs how many aircraft carriers were sunk by battleships. Today's carrier-launched planes have longer ranges and can carry anti-ship missiles.
