What do we make of the FDA’s “no DHA required” stance vs the EU’s 20-50mg/serving requirement for formula? Who’s right here? What is the AAP or Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics stance on DHA for infants? Would love any research on this! @stableisotope @BuildUpRDNs

There’s lots of excitement about baby/toddler milestones, rightfully so. But what about kid ones? -Not needing a high chair at a restaurant -The swap to full-size hangers -Can reach the sink w/o help -Moving into big kid shoe sizes I’m trying to notice and appreciate them!

An analogy. Want more people in the ocean? 2 choices: 1) Teach them how to swim, add a lifeguard, extol the joys of the water, provide vacation days. 2) Set their boat on fire and force them to jump. Pro-breastfeeding is #1. Anti-formula is #2. We need more 1 and less 2.

This is a PreK-6 elementary school, not unlike my own kids’ Christian school which is now sheltering-in-place a few miles away. We CANNOT KEEP LIVING THIS WAY, allowing our children to be gunned down while they learn how to read. I’m absolutely sick about this. @shannonrwatts

With the end of WIC waivers, does anyone know how many participants had been using a no-longer-covered formula? Trying to get a sense of how big this reshuffle is of folks transitioning products again. @stableisotope @meredithllee @USDANutrition @hbottemiller @HayleyNICU_RD

When folks say they want parents to be able to make informed feeding decisions “without commercial influence” then the standard should be applied across the board. Not only from those who profit when you don’t breastfeed, but also from those who profit when you do.

This is especially true of marketing using cherry-picked data to encourage folks to keep BFing (keep buying our milk storage bags, keep renting our hospital grade pump, keep using our nipple cream etc). These folks aren’t public health champions— theyre capitalists just the same.

Lots of talk about formula marketing & companies that “profit off of folks not breastfeeding,” with a jab at the capitalism of it all. And yet breastfeeding accessories make up a $2.2B market. When we look at dubious marketing practices for financial gain, it’s there as well.

If something is “best, unless…” it’s not best, by definition. Breast is best…unless baby has galactosemia… or parent has no breasts… or HM alone is insufficient to meet a VLBW infant’s needs. If “best” is conditional, it’s not best. Let’s use “ideal” or “preferred”instead.

One way to develop thick skin- Tell the Internet you voluntarily committed the 3 cardinal sins of “natural motherhood”: -Elective C-section -Exclusive formula feeding -Early sleep training Even better? Do these things twice. THEN tell them you don’t regret it. Have fun! 🤪

Why is it that in every bag of mini carrots there are a few that taste terrible while the rest taste like carrots?!

Anyone have any update about Care A2+ formula? Been months since the enforcement discretion announcement and then radio silence. I was looking forward to this one! @stableisotope @HayleyNICU_RD @thatnursemom @hbottemiller
