Check it out! ๐ In this review I discuss how disruptions in splicing machinery may drive and contribute to defects of the vagal neuarcrest derived cardiac and enteric tissues. It's a pretty good read!
๐ซ@thedrjam and @lamsciworld discuss splicing and potential contribution of mis-splicing to cardiac and ENS defects. ReadโAre vagal neural crest derived tissues impacted in spliceosomopathies?โโpart of the โAll Things Neural Crestโ special issue: https://t.co/eBywUyaC7w

Post doc life is continuing to treat me well. I have been super lucky to have my CIHR fellowship approved for 3 years of funding! It's kind of mind blowing because highschool Josh would not have dreamed of this for himself in a millions years! #blackinbio

Happy to share my first publication since starting my post-doc! Here we discuss the potential for studying the role of a splicing factors in vagal neural crest related diseases and disorders.

Posting to bring some happier news to the community. We officially turned over the founding cohort of biomedical researchers from my lab @RiceUniversity. Everyone in this '19 picture has moved on to great positions after their Ph.D. (4 of them!), Bachelor's, or training. #ProudPI

Y'all it happened๐ญ! The culmination of my PhD work is officially published! Thanks to @uribelabrice and @RodrigoMoreC for all there hard work and support getting this work out! We identified enrichment of BMPs and a role for BMP5 ENS progenitors in #zebrafish! #DevBio #ENS #BMP
Y'All, we have one for those interested in #BMP signaling! Congratulations to 1st author @thedrjam and coauthors on this study! I am proud to share that single-cell RNA-seq datasets are trees that continue to bear fruit! This time, we discovered 37 BMP https://t.co/IdSPNP0Fyb 1/5

Way to go @ribarragp and @uribelabrice !
My friends, I'm very proud to share a story long in the making about sympathoadrenal cells retaining a #neuralcrest gene signature after forced expression of the human #oncogene Nmyc in zebrafish! Congrats to 1st author @ribarragp and coauthors! 1/6 https://t.co/npGDzyuJwM

Y'all I got to spend a day talking with some new friends about the future of #DevBio and I have never left a scientific meeting feeling more excited about the future of science! Thank you @bradylabs @RogersLabUCD @NSF for such a grand experience!
Excited to host these amazing scientists @ucdavis for our Emerging Ideas in #DevBio workshop! Huge thanks to @NSF for the funding and my co-organizer @bradylabs. Looking forward to hearing everyoneโs great ideas! Safe travels to our last two attendees.๐คฉ

Heyyall! Here is it finally! My first author paper from @uribelabrice was just published at @PLOSONE. I am so happy to share how we discovered some novel cool genes important for the #development of the #ENS #neurons like the #opiod receptors!
journals.plos.org
The vertebrate enteric nervous system (ENS) is a crucial network of enteric neurons and glia resident within the entire gastrointestinal tract (GI). Overseeing essential GI functions such as gut...

Check out this paper from my thesis lab very cool work and CRISPR screen!
Using a #zebrafish F0 CRISPR screen, we found that genes encoding opioid receptors were essential for #ENS development! Today @PLOSONE, led by postdoc @RodrigoMoreC! Read the @RiceUNews story https://t.co/DkrGUAefqk ย and paper here:

Y'all I have to give the biggest shoutout to my PhD advisor! She just found out she got promoted with Tenure! It was such a joy getting to do grad school with you @uribelabrice ! Congrats to you and the lab! What an amazing accomplishment! ๐๐พ๐๐พ๐๐พ
I want to thank my lab for their teamwork, dedication, ambition, patience, and learning. After many crazy years, I am happy to tell you all that I was officially notified that I will be promoted to Associate Professor with Tenure, effective July 1, 2024, at @RiceUniversity

Check out my advisors mini-review on zebrafish and its use as a model of ENS!
For 20 years, the #zebrafish model has helped to identify over 65 genes required for proper #ENS development. In a mini-review, I summarize these genes, their phenotypes, and present an enteric neuron gene regulatory network.
