And I realised that as a fan, I hadn't really caught up with that. With the fact that we don't have to take a defeat as read against anybody. Except Huddersfield.

We're now ninth in the Premiership, but eight days ago we were third. Sunderland were the third best performing team in the country. We are holding our own, so far this season.

But in the days leading up to the match, I had a bit of a realisation. My first, automatic thought, when I saw we were playing them, was: well, we'll obviously lose. It was only the day before that I realised that that way of thinking no longer applies.

Yesterday's result obviously wasn't what we would have liked to go home with - and although the game seemed to have more than its fair share of interesting refereeing decisions, Man Utd absolutely deserved that win.

If you think Jewish people deserved this, or are in some way responsible for the actions of the Israeli government, or are usually white so this isn't so bad, how different are you from the government you purport to detest for attacking people of a different race and religion?

I was going to write that antisemitism is the racism of the liberal who doesn't think they are racist. But almost no racists think they're racist.

I still think it's a minority, but perhaps it's not as small as I thought. Because as I read this, I thought: I know people who might be minimising this attack.

I have always thought that only a tiny minority of people were open, active racists. That it was a wild point of view confined to people who had somehow failed to develop basic values.
