Until proven otherwise, I HATE what Stearns is doing, full stop.

It’s also a gross existence as a fan. Having no player attachment because the attractions are just borrowed for one year at a time. That absolutely sucks from a fan perspective. This is entertainment and it’s not fun if I barely know who is a Met year in and year out

If they add say Bellinger, Peralta, another high leverage reliever, then it works as a true 2026 push. If not, it’s lip service. And we get to this whole dance again next year starting the winter way behind and hoping to climb back to where we were.

Add to it the effects of displacing guys in place- I mean, look at the Bregman/Sox saga. It’s a mess. LAD. PHI, NYY will all be in on Bichette next year. Stearns won’t go long. You get one bite at the short term apple. He’s a goner next year.

IF they use this move as their big move, it’s incompetence and a pure “appease the naysayers” move. To give up picks and incur the opportunity cost of that salary for one year when even after it you’re maybe the 6th best team in NL- bad.

So now that the optout thing has been settled- love the player, absolutely hate this contract for Bichette. It’s a horrible deal for the org in medium and long term. It makes you all in on 2026. Will they make the requisite moves to be all in? I have big doubts.

Also could the presumably get a real LF and move Taylor to a 4th OF role but use him sometimes to get Soto a day at DH. Baty can’t be the regular LF or a DH tho that would hurt the added value of Bichette

I don’t hate not having a designated DH at all if there going to go that route with Baty/Bichette/Polanco. Baty is the best defender of that group so would be silly to default him to DH. Also leaves Vientos really without a spot. So let’s see what happens.

One rival evaluator notes how well Cody Bellinger would fit into the Mets' current roster: plays all three OF spots plus 1B (giving another alternative to Polanco), fits the pre-winter aim of run prevention, plus depth in a top-heavy lineup. He's the last big money position

Really feel like this opt out situation needs clarifying. Guess who has a 3B opening next year other than the Phillies? LAD. If he can freely opt out there is 0 chance he’s a Met beyond this year. In which case this is 47m for a rental who requires you to move controlled pieces

Think about WHY the Mets needed a RH bat badly, and then rethink the comment about who the best one on the market this winter was.

This is an incredible signing. Mets needed a right-handed bat badly and they just found the best one on the market this winter.

The Bichette optout thing is so huge. You can't really make Baty trade bait if Bichette is leaving next year. They really don't have a 3B in the system (Reimer is not a 3B). So then we'd be back to Vientos? Vientos doesn't carry as much value, but he seems like the odd man out

I was told the Mets were targeting hitters with huge fly ball pull tendencies like Semien because that was actually really good for hitting. So maybe all these narratives were nonsense and the Semien move was just bad...can we admit that yet?

Bo Bichette (signed by NYM) has been one of the best hitters in MLB since his debut. His bat-to-ball skills pair well with his ability to lace the ball all over the field and rack up hits He is expected to play 3B for the Mets next season, a position he has never played in MLB

This was obvious. I honestly half expected if the Phils sign Bichette to see Mets look here under "run prevention" and use Alvarez more at DH this year. Glad that didn't happen.

And they'll end up paying like $2-3m per player. I promise you thats how teams look at it. Not like this nonsense (plus your math is wrong).

My platform for running for office would be to abolish these tweets since they are the dumbest. The tax is a product of the entire roster. Its a "40M" payment owed because the entirety of the roster costs a certain level. Spread the entire tax bill over the roster...

Unless my math is wrong, with Mets in the luxury, they're paying $88M for Bichette this year.

Now go get Bellinger because fuck it, and he can start this year playing OF and be your 1B eventually when Benge and Ewing and Jett and whoever else are ready so the fit is there defensively. Then trade for SP.

And instead of adding to a wide open outfield, adds the third infielder of the offseason blocking Baty? The big problem continues to be the 35 yr old albatross at 2B that this guy jumped at adding on November 15.

Can anyone answer if David Stern is still “ very optimistic” about where this off-season is going 🧐
