#earthquake M 7.3 - 87 km S of Sand Point, Alaska.Time 2025-07-16 20:37:39 (UTC).Depth 20.1 km.I really need to get busy and build a new seismic vault for my @Raspberryshake2 While you can see the quake on the heliograph, it could be a LOT clearer!

tl;dr ADSC like ADSB is not 100% coverage of the planet 100% of the time. Myself and the other satcom ground station guys do our best to try and make it so, but life and gear failures happen. Keep an eye on the site status page from time to time and learn to read the site's.

Don't forget you can always look at and use the squawk codes to filter by ADSC source. I've been filtering on '14' a lot while we dial @maine781 54w dish tracking. Back to that motor voltage. Why does it matter? This is not a twice (top/bottom) and done.

John and I will keep tweaking the top and bottom of the orbit. He is also going to double-check the azimuth to make sure the dish is centered in that part of the orbit. My dish as az tracking (24 inch lazy suzan bearing), but its more hassle than its worth), the other stations do.

While it's a totally different data type, I find it invaluable to use graphs1090 to plot the ADSC data. You very quickly (well, I have, most #AVGEEK have not seen ADSC data on this well-known ADSB software) learn to ignore the actual numbers and just look at the trends. (BTW. I

I don't talk about my other life outside of ACARS much, too dull. But since you have made it this far. Today I was replacing basement windows. Never done it before, could not find anyone to help, so was just making it up as I went. I'm told it's good to keep the snow out of the

I've no idea what I am doing code-wise. Even Node-RED struggles with my mess. But it's mostly a case of getting the data and driving the dish up or down every 10 minutes. There is a 500-ohm headband (window) around the target; otherwise, the motor just hunts up and down all the

Looking at the graph we can easily see when the sat is at the top and bottom of its fat lazy '8' it traces in the sky over 23 hours 54 minutes. (Diagram here: .Now we peak up the waterfall at the top and bottom, taking careful note of the Ohms at each of

My tracking software of choice is @NodeRED .Every 24 hours, we make an API call to @CelesTrak to retrieve the current TLE. Then, thanks to @ceejay, we use a node to convert the TLE to latitude and longitude. Now the fun starts. We need to 'map' the lat/lon to the Ohms from the

Full credit, he's done a fantastic job of following my well trod path. Something to be said for 3 of us ground station guys using the same type of dish mount. The motor drives a jack screw with about 6 to 12 vDC (keep this in mind - it matters). The key to these cheap (primarily

C-Band dish tracking calibration. A thread. Because of my move, I've had to redo my 98w dish install. As if that was not enough on my plate, just as I was moving, I finally sent @thenewarea51 his 3 L-Band helix antennas (out of stock, no plans to make any more any time soon -

Just powered up my @Raspberryshake2 seismograph. For now, it's just sitting on the workshop floor (concrete slab). I will see what my vault options are over time. Need to think about snow and stuff up here. But for now, great to have it visible on my DIY digital dash.

Currently 12:50PDT, been working on the C-Band satellite dish tracking for about 45 minutes. Making good progress. Still need to set the alarm for 00:30PDT to retry the bottom of the orbit tracking since I failed last night. Moving 1300 miles north has changed quite a bit of the

True to my last post word. I'm awake and up, looking for the C-Band signal so I can get the satellite dish tracking dialed. Not a sign. So that means I have the whole dish out of alignment. Tomorrow I will re-level it and check the top of the orbit alignment and set the alarm

Yeah, I know, only 8 aircraft on the map from my C-Band dish right now. I have more adjustments to make. Like the top of the sat 'orbit' is nowish, so that means I have to set an alarm for 1am to adjust the bottom before the tracking can take over. Also, a reminder about

I've my C-Band dish tracking controller powered up and connected to the az/el motors on the mount in the yard. You can see me 'sweep' the dish up/down and left/right (orange plots) as I peak up the signal. Not getting many decodes yet, so got more work to do, but it's good

Well, making a mess of this!.Going to step away and take a day off. Go for a drive and just breathe. Wife and I are going a little stir-crazy working on this place for a solid three weeks now. Looking forward to our first Idaho neighborhood fireworks tonight. Stay safe, everyone.

New house ACARS decoding layout. I have more wall space than desk space in the workshop. Normally, I talk about the website or software, but it takes a good amount of hardware to run an ACARS ground station. I have more to add yet, still unpacking boxes. Ask, or details here:

You Little Rippa! .I found it!.Not quite strong enough to decode yet, and I need to wire up the two tracking motors (alt/az), but I'm very happy it only took about 5-7 minutes to locate the C-Band spot beam from Inmarsat 98W in Idaho. Will press on with the install to get it
