So if alternate-history genres are punk-named after the "most advanced" energy source of the time (e.g. steampunk, clockpunk, atompunk, dieselpunk), will future generations' retro-future settings based around the late 20th century & early 21st century include "LiPoPunk"?.

This year saw the launch of the first "new classic" space theme in years. Featuring a new shade of orange and some fancy new astronaut figures, I think the XL-15 looks pretty good in this style.

The view from the stage just before my first ever public performance at an open mic night. Recording to come soon, I hope

The Retro Space Hero is one of my favourite minifigures. While not an actual space theme, I figured he deserved his own version of the ship too, decked out in sand green and orange. Not sure about the stud shooters on the wingtips, but I wanted to try it out.

Exploriens came out when I was (almost) a teenager. I was more into Technic by then, but I still owned a few. The use of trans-red and trans-blue disks to filter red & blue ink on alien "fossils" was a neat gimmick I've tried to represent here, along with the overall palette.

Spaaaaace! The classic, retro-future stylings from the original Space theme. This version arguably has too much blue; it was a very grey-dominant theme, with blue details around the cockpits.

Decided to revisit Blacktron 1; I wasn't quite happy with the all-black design, so I added thin yellow stripes, similar to the promotional set from earlier this year. I definitely think that improves the overall look and makes it a less-generic looking ship.

Just like Space Police got re-imagined closer to the mid-90s, so did Blacktron. Less all-black, with prominent areas of white as a secondary colour, and replacing the transparent yellow for the neon green/yellow that M-Tron used to use.

Ice Planet may have been my favourite Space theme from the 90s. Owing in no small part to how awesome Deep Freeze Defender was, and the nostalgia of putting that together with my dad. I opted for a white-heavy theme here, but I might try inverting the white and blue.

I remember seeing Spyrius sets in stores a lot, and owned a few of them. The use of control panels on the outside as decorative elements, and heavy use of red grille tiles always stood out. I think this could use some more red, but it's a fun start.

From around the same era as M-Tron, we get Blacktron, the original space baddies. Transparent yellow windscreens, almost all-black spaceships, with accents of transparent red. These were also the main antagonists for the original Space Police line, which started this whole thread

Perhaps the most classic of classic space themes, M-Tron. I was a little young for this series, but I definitely owned a few sets. The use of forward-pointed transparent neon green antennas was a staple for this era in Lego Space design.

For anyone seeing this who doesn't know what all this is about, here's the original XL-15 (minus the stickers), released last year as a tie-in for the Buzz Lightyear movie. It's a well-designed little ship, with some really clever angles going on that you don't often see in Lego.

Very minor re-colouring and we get Space Police II! I never had many sets from this theme, but I remember my brother having one. I always preferred the blue/black/trans-red from the first generation, but this works well too.

The Buzz Lightyear XL-15 was hailed as one of the best spaceships Lego ever made. Naturally I wondered what it would look like in some classic Lego Space themes. Starting off with Space Police. 5-YO me would have loved playing with this.

I now own an action figure of a cockroach with a mech suit. The internet is a weird place to go shopping.

I finally got a Radio Music module after wanting one for about a year. And naturally the first thing I do with it is put bleak Werner Herzog quotes on it. But it works surprisingly well!.
