The original encryption of the keys on on the server uses a different method. So the export decrypts and then re-encrypts in a way that a user can decrypt without giving away the servers original encryption secret.

Nothing crazy the stack is able to rely on the security of network providers and our sms service provider. So it’s at least secure as SMS 2FA (if not slightly more because of the one time use token). You can’t get the token without sending a message from the phone.
Tested it; works. Awesome UX. Any details on the cryptography under the hood you can share @textbsv?

If you ever desire to walk with the keys associated with your phone number, reply “KEY”. This will give you a secure way to decrypt the keys on the client. A new set of keys will be generated and associated with the phone number and the old key is deleted from our system.
