35 workers file petition against Bill granting foreign tech companies immunity https://t.co/zGvQXmFQWQ

The tech workers argue that the Bill results from legislative capture by Big Tech and denies them public participation, exposing Kenyan workers to exploitation.

It’s time to change this. By reforming Kenya’s labour laws, we can ensure tech workers are recognised, protected, and fairly compensated. It's time to stand together with these workers by adding your voice to the petition

Global corporations continue to profit while hiding behind contractors and loopholes in our labour laws. This leaves workers with little protection, no voice and no security.

Every digital service you use, from social media apps to AI chatbots, relies on Kenyan tech workers. These workers spend long hours behind platforms, performing the invisible yet essential tasks that keep the digital world running. https://t.co/Unnz4U4BXY

Two weeks ago, the Senate passed the Business Laws (Amendment) Bill 2024 without public participation, disregarding constitutional principles and silencing the voices of tech workers. #AfricaTechWorkersMovement #KatibaDay #KatibaAt15 #KatibaDay2025 #TechWorkers #PlatformWorkers

Disappointment. Determination. A refusal to be sidelined. The message is still loud and clear: decisions about platform work must involve the workers themselves. #AfricaTechWorkersMovement #TechWorkers #FairWorkRealChange #PlatformWorkers #DecentWork #DigitalLabourRights

A few days ago, the Senate passed the Business Law (Amendment) Bill 2024 without public participation. We spoke to a few tech workers and a stakeholder about how they feel and what it means. #AfricaTechWorkersMovement #TechWorkers #FairWorkRealChange #PlatformWorkers #DecentWork

Today's message was clear: due processes must be followed, public participation must be respected and most importantly, the voices of tech workers must be heard. #AfricaTechWorkersMovement

This shows a betrayal of the people who power Kenya's digital economy. A digital economy that continues to grow while those behind it suffer in silence.

By May, the Bill moved forward to the second reading without the Committee Report. On 7th August, it was passed, ignoring the constitutional process of public participation and granting immunity to tech companies even when they continue to underpay, discriminate and harm workers.

In March this year, workers formally asked the Senate for a chance to present their views on the Bill. Their request was ignored. In April, they submitted four memoranda outlining the changes needed to safeguard workers but not one was considered.

Today, tech workers from different associations gathered to speak out against the passing of the Business Laws (Amendment) Bill 2024 at the Senate . A The law that was passed through Senate without public participation and without concern for the very people it affects most.

Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) jobs don’t always ask for much on paper. But what they don’t take in qualifications, they often take in peace of mind. This is what paying with your mental health can look like. #AfricaTechWorkersMovement #TechWorkers #FairWorkRealChange

Everyone loves a good discount. But what if your driver is the one paying for it? Muteru says riders often assume platforms cushion drivers but that’s not always the case. And while some empathise and tip, many don’t think twice. #AfricaTechWorkersMovement #TechWorkers #FairWork

Data annotators like Racheal are at the core of today’s tech. But while clients pay companies big money for AI training, workers like her see very little of it. The work is intense. The pay is low and the balance is completely off. #AfricaTechWorkersMovement #PlatformWorkers
