5/ Hiring a diverse team often requires a larger focus on skills rather than (sometimes arbitrary) credentials. A skills-based hiring process allows you to reach those candidates outside the traditional pool based on colleges or past work experience.

4/ Getting the first 5 customers can be hard. The biggest challenge in building Dover as CTO, though, was getting from that initial traction to a scalable and generalizable platform. Sometimes that means saying “No” to what a customer wants due to what the general market needs.

5/ "Hiring and retaining a team is the hardest part of building any company." In building StyleSage, Jade grew in effectively selling the product and convincing people who believe in mission to join. Some teams, e.g. sales, are also generally regarded as hard to recruit for.

4/ Jade says another distinction btw B2B and B2C is that the former has much longer sales cycles. Enterprise software sales cycles are 6-9 months from the initial touchpoint, not including efforts made to raise awareness of the business so the targeted audience is receptive.

3/ On the difference between selling B2B (to businesses) vs. B2C (to consumers), Jade emphasizes that B2C is more about quantity and the goal is to reach a wide audience, while in B2B it's critical to reach a few really high value customers and target them specifically.
