In late August, @georginacurto, one of our tech ethics postdocs, travelled to Macao to co-chair the AI & Social Good Special Track at the @IJCAIconf. The 216 submissions to the track aimed to leverage the state of the art in AI to advance the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Buzzfeed recently published a now deleted article on what AI thinks Barbies would look like from different countries around the world. The results contained extreme forms of representational bias, which is something that AI image generators are prone to doing. 1/2

An update to Zoom’s terms of service has some people online worried the company will use their conversations to train AI. Zoom says it will not use audio, video or chat content for this purpose without additional consent. But other data is still fair game.
