My favorite question to ask private schools on the Kindergarten tour is “How do you differentiate for children who are 2 grade levels ahead in reading and math?” Answers in the comments

We need more magnet schools for GT kids. When my older son got bored in class, he hacked his Chromebook and built a Minecraft server. This was 2017 (pre-Chatgtp). I can only imagine the damage he would have caused if he had AI.

As principal, I’ve noticed that most parents need two things to move their child to Alpha: 1. A reference from a trusted adult in their city (e.g., hearing Austin parents love it doesn’t help in NYC). 2. To see a student at the school do something their kid can’t do (e.g., love

It’s easier to boost the passing rate for Algebra I EOC when you simply stop 8th graders from taking Algebra I. https://t.co/MWjq6jXwrG

For two years, state-appointed superintendent Mike Miles has pushed thousands of students into less rigorous math and science classes.

If we believe all children deserve to learn at their own pace, why do we only apply that to kids who need to slow down?

Our school district blocks all AI tools for students, except for the generative feature in Canva. What if we actually allowed students to use it and modeled how to use it responsibly? Instead of giving my Algebra 2 students -|x-3|+2 to solve, tell them to go to Sora and make a

"Mathematically gifted children show differences in brain activity and cognitive processing…" If their brains function differently, why are we still teaching them the same way? We need to move beyond the approach that extra worksheets and projects are sufficient enrichment for

The primary focus of school should be growth, not uniformity. The approach below is why kids hate school. They come in excited to learn but then aren’t taught anything other than to wait for everyone else to catch up.

If we spend an entire school year forcing a 5 year old who can read on a 2nd grade level to color the letter B, what do you think is going to happen?

“How do you know he’s 2 grade levels ahead?” -This is my favorite because we get to discuss the TEKS and most of the time the administrator giving the tour is clueless.

This is why I believe micro-schools or @AlphaSchoolATX is the answer. We can't hold everyone back or accelerate everyone. Students need individualized instruction.

“We’ll just accelerate every child instead of only the ones who are ready for it” is the sort of idealistic reasoning that only makes sense if you’re completely out of touch with reality Say you have two kindergarteners, one who can’t read and one who’s at a 4th grade reading

A truly gifted child often scores well above average (for example, IQ in the 130+ range). Their cognitive profile tends to include strong Verbal Comprehension, Visual–Spatial reasoning, Fluid Reasoning, Working Memory, and Processing Speed. Processing Speed is one index in

Gifted ≠ effortless. High-IQ kids often wrestle with anxiety, frustration, and lack of engagement. They need parents, teachers, and communities who understand their unique needs.

My doctorate requires discussion board posts. It amazes me how many of these posts are purely AI-generated. Also amazes me that the professor either allows it or doesn't recognize the problem.

I think Google's Learn Your Way could be helpful. Too bad they don't have a math version that would answer the question I get every day when teaching, "When do I use this in real life?"

Gifted students need more than an extra project here and there. They benefit from advanced pace, depth, and specialized interest. Without this, they disengage, underperform, or lose motivation. It’s time we see more dedicated schools for gifted learners.
