With a robust sample of nearly 4,000, the study provides timely, empirical evidence for ongoing debates about the Court's expedited procedures. It suggests that the Court has some control over public perceptions through its actions, particularly regarding specific support.

The most intriguing finding? While the Court's use of the shadow docket significantly erodes specific support, it leaves overall diffuse support intact. This dichotomy persists across partisan lines and different case types, challenging simplistic views of judicial legitimacy.

This study breaks new ground in understanding how the Supreme Court's procedural choices affect public support. Using a 2x2x2 experimental design, it simultaneously manipulates procedural regularity, policy area, and decision direction, allowing for a nuanced analysis.

Is the Supreme Court in its Reputation Era?.Not quite. My recently accepted paper at APR shows that while the Court's use of the shadow docket negatively impacts specific support, it does not significantly affect overall diffuse support for the institution.

significantly so when filtered through policy agreement. The Dobbs decision strongly influenced perceptions, particularly among those aware of the leak or the opinion, with disagreement causing more consistent negative effects than the partial + effects from agreement.
