Dupatta and many variations of upper body costumes indeed are common in ancient Indian artwork, @NeenaRai ji. Below are two examples from Mathura (c. 100 BC-200 AD). The Brahmi text at top (case 1), lower bottom left (case 2) helps date these. Hindu texts describe dupatta.

The most interesting seals were from the deepest layer. This may be proto-Brahmi (800-400 BC). Needs TL etc analysis for a firmer dating.
