Last night my Minneapolis neighborhood of Kingfield hosted its first “Indoor Porchfest.” A late-fall friendly spin on their popular outdoor music festival, they turned a former church into three floors of local bands with some great rockabilly, jazz, and even sea shanties. 🎤🎸⚓️

Yesterday I moderated a Minneapolis mayoral debate with Jacob Frey, Omar Fateh, DeWayne Davis and Jazz Hampton. This article outlines some of the key differences that emerged and a video of the whole thing is here to watch. I hope you will:

On Sunday, I’m running the Twin Cities Marathon. Then on Monday I’m doing something of a political marathon, moderating mayoral candidate forums in both Twin Cities. A Minneapolis mayoral forum Monday morning, then a St. Paul mayoral forum Monday evening. 🏃‍♂️😥

Kudos to @mlahammer and @bloisolson for doing the hard work of moderating today’s Minneapolis mayoral debate. We need more candidate programs like this where we empower smart moderators to ask questions and push candidates for substantive answers.

Just finished my last ever workout at the Uptown LA Fitness. I’ve been coming here since it first opened, when there were stores, bars and improv all around it. Loved being able to ride my bike here, and the kind folks I met between sets. Sad to have to say goodbye.

Here’s my argument:

Candidate forums are generally very poorly done: lame questions, meaningless talking points from candidates, and no follow-up from moderators. With Minneapolis facing a real mayoral contest, the candidates should have to face a real debate.

There are few failed public works that annoy me more than a broken clock tower. In a time when many people’s timepiece is in their pockets, I think these serve a value and show be fixed.

Name a US city that has better non-July 4 fireworks than Minneapolis on Aquatennial. 😮
