Growth, as currently measured, is driving inequality and is not sustainable. There needs to be a destination for the economy. We cannot grow ourselves out of a broken system.
"Growth is the cause that binds us together... it's why we've made it the number one test of this government," Keir Starmer says I'm "determined" to make this country "the highest growing economy in the G7", the PM adds https://t.co/7IpFBkAytv

Reassuring to hear this contribution from @MazzucatoM on the need to factor in the costs of cuts. We can not cut our way to economic prosperity. The only successful way to develop the economy is investment in it. https://t.co/nikT9iafNk
I’m a fan of @MazzucatoM -and here’s exactly why. She elegantly dismantles the notion that cuts = savings. In this example, it’s the winter fuel allowance… more widely, it also applies to austerity. You often have to *invest* to improve efficiency.

Great to join this evening's session with @YunusCentreGCU and the always excellent @nmcinroy talking on the role of more democratic economies. Enjoying joining the online discussion and putting a few more questions forward.

Can't wait to get down to Bristol for the @thriving_places away day as we look the strategic direction in years ahead. Sadly flight rather than train through lack of viable options and obscene price difference. 1/2
