➡The #fisheries and aquaculture sector has much to contribute to securing all the SDGs, but is at the core of SDG 14 – Conserve and sustainably use the #oceans, seas and marine #resources for sustainable development.

➡It is therefore necessary that the 2020 edition of "The State of World Fisheries and Aquaculture" is devoted to the topic of #Sustainability in Action.

➡In response, at the SDG summit in September 2019, the #UnitedNations Secretary-General called on all sectors of society to mobilize for a Decade of Action to accelerate the development of sustainable solutions for the world’s biggest challenges.

➡After 5 years of uneven progress, it is clear that action to meet the 17 #sustainabledevelopment Goals (SDGs) is not yet advancing at the speed or scale required.

🔔In September 2015, the #UnitedNations launched the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, a blueprint for global peace and prosperity.

#Seafood is highly resource efficient — it has the highest protein retention compared to chicken, pork and beef. It also has the lowest feed conversion ratio among the same forms of protein.

#Wildfish have been exploited for generations. Some estimate that the annual catch of edible marine protein has already passed its peak. The oceans cannot naturally provide the demand for #seafood.
