This is genuinely a huge reason why Iโm so fond of the 2D/early 3D era. Playing a game was a lot like reading a book - your imagination did a lot of the heavy lifting in a way that felt stimulating and fulfilling and itโs something I just donโt feel with hyperrealism
I've discussed this previously. Games used to require you to have an imagination to fill in the gaps. You couldn't see every pore, or hair strand. The player had to use their mind to fulfil the experience. That's gone now. Now the fidelity is so high, you are just a passenger.
