Sharing my thoughts is so scary but this is just my interpretation for now and im not saying it's the absolute truth!!!.
I have been thinking about eblana as a character and her reasons/feelings towards the predicament caused by her flames. She starts off the first chapter by telling the exiled king that having so many people die isn't actually something she wants and asks him for a solution

And now she's a shell of a person who can only feel pain and the cold, just because eblana can withstand it doesn't make it any less of a punishment and just like she said. Right now she's no longer the leader, or even eblana dublinn, she's just loughshinny's shadow.

Eblana's power is a curse and it's not an exaggeration to say that this power is what shaped her into what she is but eblana isn't crazy or irrational, she got power but in turn she also took upon herself the hatred and sorrow of every taran affected by her flames.

We do also know that she also staked everything in the miracle that loughshinny would create.

This isnt me saying eblana is a good person and she cares, but more trying to make sense of a contradiction and the fact that eblana, calculative as she is had absolutely nothing to gain from the tara she put so much effort into freeing just going up in flames.

We're also told that eblana herself was sickly and that likely she wouldve died along with all the tarans had loughshinny not returned the fire to her so. Eblana couldn't have been the sole survivor or become stronger without the fire having been returned to her willingly

We also know that eblana has no real control over the spreading of her fire and neither can she stop it, so she quarantined every citizen in one place and allowed no one else to enter.

Besides in their conversation she never confirms his words of "never intending to spare na saoirsi" which is a direct contradiction to her request for a method to "cleanse"(not take back) the fire in the very first chapter.

So i thought it was odd that the story brings attention to the fact that the singer purposefully delayed his report regarding loughshinny and the elocutionist twice, so i started wondering if this was her way of dealing with someone who "tried to use her"

We know that eblana was likely aware that the elocutionist would take loughshinny to county hillock against orders and- im guessing harmonie, also mentions how if you try to use eblana she'll already have made a plan to get rid of you

After looking through her files as well i came to the conclusion that maybe. Just maybe she lied to the singer for the purpose of crushing his spirit as the last remaining member of dublinn and maybe a more personal sort of revenge?.

I am keeping in mind the words loughshinny said about eblana and taking the things eblana says as a truth

But then later on she makes the singer believe that this was her plan all along all for the purpose of becoming stronger, now here's the part that confused me because just a bit later she tells the doctor that there was no particular reason

Im crying like she's literally just tanking eternal suffering i guess.
Btw the confirmation that eblana is just in constant pain and that it's basically the only sensation she feels aside from the cold, and it's that pain that reminds her that she's still alive is crazy
