Still my favorite design system to use. Love that there's a long term future with incremental improvements.
Some cool and exciting things are coming to the Chakra UI. 1. ‘asChild’ prop will replace polymorphic ‘as’ prop. This will simplify TS types and speed up type resolution. https://t.co/hBIIJMnpl8

It really depends on the audience. I've worked with groups who almost exclusively talk about or get excited about the backend engine powering the UI. The UX is such an assumed afterthought, and sometimes perceived as much easier and thus less exciting.
I've always felt sorry for backend developers when they demo something that's really complex but no one gets excited. Then the frontend team demo a really simple UI and people go crazy.

I've always wondered what the people that do this are like. Do they litter the streets with trash too?

A recent study by Amazon AI researchers found that a "shocking amount of the web" comprises poor-quality AI-generated and translated content.

Anyone interested in any of these domains I own? Happy to negotiate on pricing.

What would you call an environment that is not localhost and not production? I think that "dev environment" includes local, so maybe a "deployed environment" or "hosted environment"?

A common fallacy that I have observed over and over again: when someone provides advice that is only applicable to themselves or people exactly like them. It's difficult to stop yourself from doing it, I've done it too, but it seems like people don't realize this often enough.

Has anyone switched to Biome? I want to use it really badly but am encountering a supposed limit to the number of target files. I've ignored node_modules and figured the formatter would just work, but maybe I need to configure more ignored folders my project's a monorepo?
Let us know if you use Biome at your company or organization here on Github, and we will feature you as one of our users! https://t.co/G5w3N5FuIQ

A lot of the news these days makes me feel like I'm living through a science fiction piece. Although a true futuristic testament I guess is flying cars.

There are small things that I appreciate in technical docs which have a big impact. The more jargon and acronyms you use, the more time it takes to understand everything. Even with CLI commands, it helps to use the longer versions like `npm install` instead of `npm i`.

Also I'm biased and have very simple needs. Just tell me the weather, set a timer, play music, and control my smart devices. The current Nest smart speakers have been a productive gain in my life because most of the time I need these tasks done when I'm multitasking.

Which if it wasn't clear, Google Assistant, particularly on Google Home/Nest devices, will continue to do that even after the "butchering", unless I misread the list. Yeah they'll obviously incorporate gen-AI but I personally like the keyword based question and task detection.

I guess this is a hot take, but I don't really care to have conversations with an AI. I want to ask questions and give commands, and if it does that through keyword detection I'm ok with that. Just let me ask the weather and set a timer hands-free please.

Assistant has been getting less reliable for many, and Google is fixing this by … removing features

I'm a big fan of Chakra UI. It's been very stable but I'm glad that it also continues to receive updates despite work done in sister projects such as Ark UI and Panda CSS. Glad that the projects are interconnected.
Prepping for a new major release of Chakra (v3) ✅ Granular Imports ( = better Treeshaking) ✅ Single `chakra-ui/react` package ✅ Improved Next 14 compatibility We'll release another major version (v4) shortly after to include all the new awesome components from Ark UI.

Something else that annoys me about the web vs native experience: either there is no web app available, or there is clearly more engineering investing on one which reduces feature parity between the two. You can still cater to mobile users with a single web app.
Many companies are delusional and feel like they must have a native app, even though their native app is just a replica of their web app, with an arguably inferior UX. Some experiences do require native integration, but most would be great as web-first/only!

What needs to change to allow for this to be a reality is at least one major brand needs to push for a web-only experience. Build a great PWA with offline and notification support if needed. Users won't care how they access said brand, and others will follow.

Myth: consumer mobile apps are offline-first. Reality: they don’t even boot up without internet, and follow the same laws of what makes a website fast (SSR / RSC) The Web, with its better serving, deployment & publishing model, will eventually win every UI on every screen.
