There is every reason to ban religious belief from shaping medical practice. When some random guy believes his faith is more relevant than trained medical physicians expertise in deciding whether a pregnancy needs to be terminated, at any week of gestation, that’s a problem.

Great! Then there's no reason to oppose a ban on abortion in the 9th month.

Wow, the leaked call logs show both that: -Witkoff committed treason by advising Russia how to get their way by out maneuvering president Trump. AND -The “peace proposal” was authored and sent by the Russians meaning Vance, Rubio and Witkoff have all lied about its origin!

It’s up to us as citizens to hold the govts we elect accountable. Is it difficult and time consuming? Yep. But those are the responsibilities of living in a democracy. We must use our agency. Not send in the feds.

Charlatans don’t care about partisanship. Charlatans betray all partisans. They are in it for themselves. It’s not up to levels of govt to police each other.

It becomes impossible to discuss reality as it’s experienced by individuals. Unless we share a reality we cannot address the source of our problems. Partisanship doesn’t alter reality. Charlatanism does. Recognizing grift, extreme corruption & deceit removes partisanship.

But the commonality of conflict and abuse in politics deters involvement and even just discussion of the issues. Respect for opposing views has been altered into abandonment of a common reality to even acknowledge opposing views.

Until the affected citizenry recognizes that UCP is NOT a regular political party, accountability is impossible. I find it weird that people don’t already know this. As a kid, this was a common understanding within the citizenry.

That is how to hold a duly elected govt accountable. Work with others who share your concerns. This is not a partisan activity. It’s a democracy activity. Partisanship doesn’t matter when your society is under attack. And yes, that is what is happening.

The incapacity, corruption and ideological demagoguery of UCP is difficult to ignore. This isn’t the left or centre or moderate right. It’s people who hold all of those values who recognize the threat to our society and its institutions by UCP policies.

But we cannot do that. We must put aside as much of our busy activities as possible to become informed. Those who have done exactly that are the people behind the recall movement. What is awesome to note is that there are both rural and urban recall efforts.

The problem is, the fourth & fifth estate (media/journalism) has been deeply impacted by foreign ownership. So remaining informed about the issues has been difficult for busy citizens. It’s easier to accept as fact the information presented by formerly trustworthy sources.

Members of the public recognize dangers and huge problems. To address these issues public pressure has been increased on UCP and Smith as leader. Because it’s the citizens of a polity who are responsible for holding politicians accountable.

But it’s not. It’s just regular Albertans taking responsibility for holding the elected govt accountable for the policies harming every day Albertans and an irresponsible and corrupt spending history.

In Alberta, that’s already happening. The movement of people currently organizing to recall UCP is well underway. There are 14 recall initiatives currently underway. Nine have been approved by Elections Alberta. Smith & UCP MLAs targeted for recall say its unions or the “left”.

It means our complex lives in economically unstable times requires our attention and increased involvement to get through this crisis and maintain the liberal democracy. It means we must adjust our own lives to create time for political involvement and use our agency.

In a complex society, that’s not realistic. Regardless of what left libertarians and far right nationalists demand, direct democracy is not a reasonable solution. But neither is absolving oneself of all responsibility because a representative was elected.

But that’s not how democracies work. We do not live in a direct democracy. A few federal and provincial parties toy with the idea of direct democracy. But direct democracy is way too involved for most people. Every decision requires a vote and majority approval.

But in today’s frenetic environment, no one seems to think they have any personal responsibility to step up and make their voice heard. People like to fob the responsibility to hold a govt accountable off onto another level of govt, or to media, or onto law enforcement.
