This is beautiful and resonated so much. Our grandparents story - the founding figures of our British history. Amma’s resilience, pride and light shines through.

The term “angel” came from Broadway when the rich would pay for the production and be paid back once the money rolled in. I much prefer @dgjones take on the origins of angel investing though👇🏾

No explanation other than asked to do test to board plane. Passport was not sufficient to serve as identity either. @easyJet who is responsible for this test? . Asking for a friend.

“Randomly” selected to do an English test upon leaving Bordeaux airport to come back to London. Many disappointing aspects to flying with today @easyJet, especially the lack of space to draw my triangle and ladder and the fact that no-one told me my test result result.

These seem like fairly limited changes in the context of the critiques I've set out. I agree. Ultimately, we need more so-called professional do-gooders to jump into that most awful of arenas, politics, and take over the government. But that's a whole other thing.

• Are we truthfully articulating and addressing the root causes of the problem?. • What are the incentives that might shape our actions and behaviour? Are we being co-opted?. • Is a market-based solution really going to help tackle this problem?.

Overall, I continue to believe in the transformative potential of social enterprise and tech for good, but I argue we need to continually ask three questions when trying to tackle complex social issues.

7. Underlying premise of SE and tech for good is that social problems can be turned into market opportunities, and solved. But is this true?. I've seen many examples where market-based solutions are tackling the problem, but not at the scale necessary (and am doubtful they can).

6. My experience is that most UK investors & funders, while well-meaning, aren't being bold enough in re-imagining their investment theses, structure & instruments to meet the scale of the challenges they profess to want to tackle.

5. Social enterprise and tech for good gives power to organisations that have created some of the social problems we are experiencing. This power is often expressed via capital allocation.

4. When you are in social enterprise world, you are incentivised to believe SE is the answer to many of our ills. It means you may not be as supportive of other actions that might be more impactful in terms of driving positive change.

3. The professionalisation of doing good may in fact be a form of co-option. I've seen how it can be easy to ignore wider societal challenges when you are narrowly focused on doing something "good" in your space.
