If that's it for Daron Holmes in a Dayton jersey, I thank him for the memories and I'm happy he was able to go out with a meaningful win in March. Top ten player in program history. Period.
Jalen Crutcher has appeared in 113 games for the Dayton Flyers and its hard to believe this is his last game at UD Arena (maybe). His contributions to the program could never be understated. One of the best PGs to ever play in Dayton.
This basketball season provided so many special moments for our school, the city of Dayton and all alumni, myself included. I feel empty. There's no one to blame. I'll remember this day forever. I pride myself on always having the right words, but today they're non-existent.
Today, it feels like the last four years of work on this podcast has led to this interview:. My chat with
@notthefakeSVP
about UD, Maryland, college hoops, and enjoying the ride. Stay LOWD Flyers.
Dayton beat St. Mary's.
St. Mary's beat Wisconsin. Wisconsin just beat Ohio State.
Dayton is better than Ohio State.
I don't make the rules, these are all facts.
The committee confirmed the Dayton was in the NCAAT this morning and Richmond beating Davidson knocked them out. You honestly have to be fucking kidding me.
Couldn't forget... There's 5 days until Flyers season and it's a great time to remember the big fella. Thankful for all our Flyers, past, present and future.
The 2024 Dayton Flyers have become the fourth team in program history to finish the regular season undefeated at UD Arena.
"No one comes into our house, and pushes us around"
On to the A10 Tournament.
All those countless nights over the years being up past midnight by myself editing a Dayton basketball podcast for a few hundred people all seems worth it today.
In the era of non stop bullshit, I appreciate Nate Santos actually releasing an honest statement about his mindset and choice to come back to the Flyers. This goes a long way around here. UD grads and students simply want players who are "one of us"
Dayton finally showed a killer instinct today that's been absent in many games this year. They are the better team than Fordham, and showed it down the stretch. I credit the fight in Fordham, but they were simply in the way. Show up LOWD tomorrow, we're one win away.
Hey, everyone, let's stop bitching about this game... The Dayton Flyers have clinched an A10 title and will win it outright to cut down the nets on Friday night. Fill every seat with an ass and stay LOWD.
This was a day of basketball I will never forget. My whole life. Watching Dayton do the unthinkable, and then driving downtown with my dad to watch Oakland upset Kentucky. Only the NCAA Tournament can deliver a day like this. I'll remember it forever.
There you have it, the Dayton Flyers are ranked
#14
which is the program's highest ranking since January 14th, 2008.
If they rise any higher than 14 it will be the program's highest ranking since 1967.
A new record for Beer Giveaway Day: 95 houses at The University of Dayton are drinking free because of the alumni. Thank you to everyone involved. This is what it's all about around here: brews and basketball (1 of 2 receipts)
Dayton was on the ropes multiple times, with an undefeated home season on the line, and the 5 starters delivered because there was no one else left to deliver. Huge momentum win for everyone. What a way to finish the season undefeated in our building.
Absolute statement win by the Dayton Flyers tonight at home. The identity is defense. The brand is
#LOWD
These young Flyers may be here to stay in the A10 after all.
Main takeaway from the past 10 days: alumni like Brooks, Mark Ashman, Jalen, Obi, etc etc show up with the fans for an alumni tournament in July in our own building. Lots of familiar faces wearing red, being LOWD. The program and the brand of Dayton bball is stronger than ever,
No one will ever question the heart of the 2024 Dayton Flyers. They had their chances today (plenty of them) and the shots just didnt fall. UD was never going to beat a very good Arizona team shooting 29% from deep.
The Dayton Flyers are not to be fucked with in the A10. Rhodey just caught a beating so bad they saw some walk-ons. UD leads wire to wire, and this game was never close. Stay LOWD all night people.
All signs pointing towards Dayton having a fully healthy roster for Wednesday vs. Wisconsin in the Bahamas. File it directly under: Things You Love To See.
Confirmed from multiple sources now, but in a world of bad news, Dayton Flyers basketball fans will have an announcement to celebrate in the next 24-ish hours. Remain LOWD until then.
Guys, were not making "Dayton 2020 national champions" tshirts. Dayton didn't win a national championship. No one did. The season ended. We're not UCF. I'm hurting too, but stop it.
Joe Lunardi on ESPN2 right now: "The next first round NBA guy in the A10 will be Obi Toppin"
"Phil Martelli said he's the best athletic big man in this league since David West.
Wow.
For all those unfamiliar with the traditions at The University of Dayton: it is the weekend where campus celebrates St Patricks Day, and as such, it always kicks off right now, somewhere in The Ghetto, for 40s at 4am.
If anyone in the Dayton area has contracted COVID, they are holding a support seminar at the Dayton Marriott this afternoon until Wednesday, look for the large buses.
The best 40 minute effort of the season from the Flyers. This is the team everyone expected this year. They took SLUs best punch in the first and didn't flinch, turning in a truly dominate defensive effort in the 2H to go up big and never look back. Great win for UD. Stay
#LOWD
Heard from multiple people today that UD expects Obi to play tomorrow night. No walking boot on campus today, diagnosed as a mild ankle sprain with no serious damage. Might not be 100%, but should be good to go.
I'm getting way more serious about Daron Holmes having a flu game. Whatever is going on, this dude is fighting through it to have the best offensive game of his career
Digest the game however you want, but Grant has been here six years and not won anything. Two of the best players I can ever remember in Dayton uniforms wont play an NCAAT game in their careers here. The roster is getting gutted anyways, start over. Havent we seen enough of this?
The Flyers won this game because Daron Holmes is the best player in the conference and Bonaventure had absolutely no answer for him. That's it and that's all man.
VCU lost to UMASS?!?! My Lord you absolutely HATE to see it. How embarrassing. Have a drink for UMass Twitter tonight and all the homies over there. Those boys deserve this one.
Wake up, make breakfast, get right with the lord if you wish, meditate, clear your mind and soul, and get ready to watch the Dayton Flyers just before 1pm ET. Im scared, you're scared. Just do what you need to do.
Gonna fanboy for a second because of my love for
@heykayadams
...but did not expect to see her reppin UD today on
@UpAndAdamsShow
!!
While it is not red, it is most definitely LOWD.
