Indian cities will host 800 million people by 2050. Add a car ownership rate currently at 3% of the US’s, and you have a recipe for disaster. The challenges of sustainable modal shift in such a hypergrowth society are enormous. The possibilities—if they get it right—are endless.

Making up 5% of traffic, Delhi’s ‘invisible cyclists’ pedal defiantly in a city that has long forgotten their plight. Their voices remain unheard in the mobility disucssion, which is directed toward the growing middle class. Surely, they deserve the dignity of safe streets, too.

When priorities are clearly marked (and rules enforced by authorities), drivers stop for pedestrians. A marked pedestrian crossing on the road is the bare minimum and it costs next to nothing. #Walk21Kigali #Kigali
