ITF president David Haggerty said in 2018 that the new Davis Cup would be “more attractive to players, to fans, to sponsors and to broadcasters”. Seven years on, with Gerard Pique/Kosmos long gone, is that really the case for the “World Cup of tennis”?

Celtic manager resigns, the club chief publicly savages him, the stand-in manager says Hearts can win the league, while Aberdeen appoint a penguin-stealing sports director who spent time in jail & modelled for Armani. That's enough for today. You'll never beat Scottish football.

More here from ATP Chairman Andrea Gaudenzi on the state of the present tennis schedule. His goal is to reduce the total number of tournaments and have a longer off-season but it’s clearly complex in a sport with a fractured governance.

The ATP has announced a new 10th ATP Masters tournament in Saudi Arabia from 2028. It will be a non-mandatory event with a 56-player field, lasting one week. Dates are yet to be confirmed - the preferable option is February but a pre-Australian Open slot has not been ruled out.

No simple solution but some tennis players may look with envy at top golfers on the PGA Tour. Majors and “mandatory” commitments essentially out of the way by the end of August, with freedom to choose for rest of the year. Events continue for lower-ranked players to secure cards.

Not unusual at this time of year for a debate on the length of the tennis schedule, but there does seem to be a particular groundswell of opinion from many top players this year. Bear in mind there was an off-season of only 33 days before the 2025 campaign
thetimes.com
A solution is not simple, but after Rune’s horror injury, and with the likes of Alcaraz and Sabalenka warning they are at breaking point, eventually something has to give in the calendar

Some Jack Draper news as he recovers from injury: he has appointed Jamie Delgado (formerly with Andy Murray & Grigor Dimitrov) as his new lead coach ahead of next season. James Trotman remains in the team but will step back with fewer weeks on the road.

Delgado, who helped Murray win Wimbledon in 2016, will work as Draper’s lead coach, as British No1 attempts to close the gap on Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner
