Have you ever been blocked in real life from accessing a product or service just because you didn’t hold the right asset to pay a provider/infrastructure fee?. No. Never!. Yet in this industry, this is still the norm. 2 lines of code. That’s all it takes to remove this blocker.

Fewer shortcuts. More standards. Fewer showmen. More stewards. Fewer "narratives". More proof of work. It’s time to grow up.

I’ve stuck around this long because I still believe. In the builders. In the tools. In the potential. But belief isn’t enough. It’s time for crypto to stop mimicking the world it set out to replace and start building something that can actually last.

What maturity does look like:.– Principles over personalities.– Long-term design over short-term dopamine.– Open critique over blind loyalty to a "team".Not glamorous. But necessary.

This isn’t about going full TradFi or dulling the edge that makes crypto interesting. Maturing doesn’t mean selling out. It means asking harder questions. Choosing slower paths. Building systems that can survive without us.

Too many projects still orbit around personalities. Too many communities punish dissent, and reward "alignment" over integrity. We haven’t replaced the old systems. We’ve rebranded them.

We tell ourselves it’s fine. We're still early. But after 15 years, some of this isn’t early-stage experimentation. It’s immaturity we’ve learned to normalize. And it’s holding us back.

We created a culture where getting rich fast became the norm. Where rotating into the next airdrop meta replaced building for the long haul. Where ecosystems feel like 24/7 casinos and the real product is volatility itself.

This space has always been emotionally charged. For a generation priced out of housing, burdened by debt, and shut out of opportunity, crypto felt like a lifeline. A place where you didn’t need credentials. Just conviction. That energy built something powerful. But also fragile.

I’ve been in crypto personally since 2010 & professionally since 2016. Before that, I spent almost a decade in traditional finance. Crypto was supposed to be different. And in many ways, it is. But there’s one truth we need to start saying out loud:.Crypto needs to grow up.🧵.

We’re in our 4th year building on Starknet. What a ride! We've shipped a ton. AVNU is the most integrated trading infra on Starknet (Swap, DCA, etc.), we’ve led and pushed forward key ecosystem initiatives, and we’re about to open-source a critical piece of infra: the Paymaster.

In this previous tweet, I argued that rebuilding Web2 products on Web3 only makes sense when crypto meaningfully improves the experience by unlocking things like composability, censorship resistance, or user ownership. If decentralization doesn’t enhance the product, then the.

Building this point out a bit more. Crypto’s history is full of ambitious attempts to “rebuild Web2 on Web3”. A decentralized Twitter, a blockchain Airbnb, a P2P Uber. The pitch decks are slick. The intention is good. But in most cases, the result is underwhelming. Why?.

Crypto should strive for this being the rule, not the exception. If you can't explain why your product makes more sense on crypto rails, pivot.

Helping builders go from 0 to 10 is still one of the biggest opportunities in crypto. We’ve made a lot of progress. Grants, hackathons, demo days etc get a lot of stick but these things matter. They create energy, surface talent, and lower the barrier to getting started. But.
