(One of the perks of being a grad student in NYC) I got to be in this Wired Magazines 5 Levels video on quantum sensing! Happy to talk a little bit about my research and general quantum-y stuff.

🔜We believe this qubit platform can lead to junction arrays with higher plasma frequencies. Also due to the smaller capacitive energy and lower frequency, we believe this qubit will be less susceptible to dielectric loss, which has stymied other gatemon qubits in the past.

〰️We show that in the different regimes the qubit spectra change drastically different and we perform coherent control of the qubit states. While the coherence times in current devices are limited, better understanding of these arrays will hopefully lead to future improvements!.

⚡️We made a fluxonium qubit that can tune that can tune over an order of magnitude in Ej/Ec using a voltage-controlled junction! This new type of qubit (which we named the gatemonium) employs an array of 600 superconductor-semiconductor junctions in series (the first of its kind).

🗣️Fluxonium is an interesting type of superconducting qubit which can have very long coherence times. Due to the nature of the circuit its difficult to tune the Josephson energy in-situ, but doing so would be very useful switching between bit/phase-flip protected regimes at will.

We studied various ways to incorporate superconductor-semiconductor junctions in couplers, transmons, and a new fluxonium-style (more on that very soon 👀). These junctions could possibly introduce low power couplers to large scale processors.

Our gate voltage tunable fluxonium work is now on arxiv! We made a Fluxonium qubit entirely on the InAs super-semi platform. The superconductor is an array of 600 InAs-Al junctions. Huge thanks to @AndreiVraji and as always @JavadShabani19 @LabShabani.

Our work is published in PR Research! We successfully made and measured gatemon qubits on InAs 2d electron gases and characterized (many) different loss mechanisms in these circuits. We’re hoping this will pave the way for higher coherence devices based on these materials!.
