Stream ecology students @CNASatMSU surveyed the hell out of a bunch of gravel bars the past couple days. Ended today in the swimmin hole at Bull Creek and with Bob stories on the Kipfer deck. All in support of Alexis’s badass thesis work on gravel bar plant succession!

Nice preview for my #2023SFS #freshwaterdownunder talk. That wild north-directed blast laid down >50 meters of sterile debris upon which brand-new streams formed. Come find out about them Sunday afternoon! NSF project with @CarriLeRoy, Shannon Claeson, and many students.

Recently #UWITEC sampled freece-cores at #Drava river - liquid #nitrogen (−196 °C) freezes sediments around the lance: this enables detailed analyses of vertical characteristics of riverine #sediments… #BACI #monitoring @BOKUvienna @BOKU_IHG

Hydropsyche is the name of a genus of net-spinning caddis that, as larvae, make beautiful nets out of silk. I am in awe of them! Afon Ystwyth, Hafod @CUP_HAT_

Great article @ljevanso - captures the thrill I also feel about streams in fast-changing #cryosphere. Also captures Sandy Milner in his element, including his same old field flannel 💙 As for the decade-old data I'm sitting on from those streams... still on the to-do list! 🤞
Glaciers are transient. Climate is changing. Some streams are drying up. Others are forming. In our warming world, there is much still to learn about the enigmatic ways succession ushers in new life, upturning our ancient ways. | @ljevanso. https://t.co/5d2Rv7mMUJ
